Why We Like The Outdoor Research Ferrosi Pant

We believe that if you can't wear your current pants up mountain peaks, on long plane rides, and to the brewery after the crag, then it's time to upgrade. And we've found that there are few better options than the Ferrosi Pants from Outdoor Research. Not only does the lightweight nature of these pants make it an easy choice for light-and-fast movement in the mountains, but it also prevents lingering moisture from clinging close to your body for hours on end. Accidentally tip your canoe? No worries, the Ferrosi pants dry up and get the adventure back on track in no time.

Comfy, functional, sweat wicking!

These pants are so comfortable. There is a faint grid texture to them that’s great at wicking away moisture but they still feel and look so nice. They’re lightweight so I wouldn’t take them on a full blown bushwhack but on overgrown trails they feel like they’re going to hold up great. I did notice that they run a hair big, I’m a 2 in most brands including Prana and found that these were a bit big in the waist. Not big enough to size down so the drawstring is much appreciated. Will be buying a pair in every color.

Best hiking pant

Familiarity:
I've used it several times
Size Bought:
8

I bought two pair of these hiking pants after Whitewater rafting the Grand Canyon with my son who was wearing them. They repelled water well, were lightweight, and protected his legs from sunburn. After buying two pair, I was so in love with them that I bought two more. The fabric is nice enough that I can wear them to work as well as hiking in Colorado.

These are nice pants, but

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
Size Bought:
10

I'm 5'8 and 150 lbs, I got a size 10 and they are ~standing only~ pants right now, hopefully I'll lose a little more weight in the next 60 days before the return window on this is closed. I'd like to wear them because they feel nice and have good pockets. I would get a different size, but you have to pay shipping and it's a whole thing to return them.

Lightweight Hiking Pants

Familiarity:

I am in love with these pants, they are incredibly stretchy, durable, comfortable, and flattering. I took them on 3 day backpacking trip to test them and they held up beautifully. We ended up doing some boulder hopping which included me sliding on my butt quite a bit, and after the fabric looked good as new. They’re easy to roll up, clean up well after I spilled food on them, and fairly water resistant. I’m 5’7” 135 lbs with a 26” waist but bigger thighs and a size 2 fit great. I usually don’t like the drawstring in the waistband cause I normally wear a belt when serious hiking/ backpacking so I can carry. But even wearing these around town they are flattering to cinch the drawstring down. I loved these pants and bought a second pair after the trip!

Good fit - not that breathable

Familiarity:
I've used it several times
Size Bought:
8 reg

Me: 5'9", 155, 39 hips, 31 waist - ordered an 8 reg Fit is good, pants stretch out with wear maybe a half size and fabric breaks in to be softer after two days of wear. These are great for wearing around town, but I hiked in them and they aren't as breathable as I'd like - they stuck to my legs and were way less breathable than my older Patagonia Quandary pants

Fell short

Snagged on the front of thigh after 2 MILD days of wear: day 1 was a travel day in airport and on a train followed by a dinner. Day 2 was literally spent in the office in a conference room. So frustrating that these are meant to be hiking pants but started showing signs of wear when chinos from J Crew certainly would not have. Also, the little plastic piece on the inside hem that is meant to cinch the pant leg should you like also fell off on both legs! Disappointed and not interested in seeing how they hold up further.

I can't say anything about their durability, but they fit great, and are very comfortable. I ordered size 2/Reg (height 5'7", 27 waist, 39.5 hips). Lightweight. This is a rare case when pants look better on me than in the models' pictures :) Side pocket is great.
