Yeti's world champions aren't all legends from the past. The Yeti DJ was refined with input from 2009 World 4X champion and Yeti factory racer, ared Graves. This is the bike he used to dominate the Worlds 4X event at Canberra, Australia -- coasting across the finish line and having time to ghost ride it into the barriers and collapse with emotion before the other racers crossed the line.
The hydroformed aluminum tubeset gives the bike a muscular appearance, with its oversize top tube providing a distinctly generous amount of weld area for the critical junction with the tapered headtube. The traditional Yeti looped stays are gone on the new DJ, but the bolt-on sliding dropouts are an improvement over past designs. They offer 25mm of horizontal adjustment range that lets you alter the wheelbase from 15.5" - 16.5" to suit personal tastes or a particular race course. Should you decide to run the DJ as a single-speed, that inch of adjustment allows plenty of chain tension capability with room for more than one gear option. Quick changes in the pits won't necessitate a brake adjustment either, because the brake tabs are integral on the left side dropout and move with the axle -- set and forget.
Whether you ride 4X, dirt jumps, street, or all of the above, the Yeti DJ is a smart bike. It comes in three sizes -- about two more than many of the other DJ bikes on the market. The top tube slopes at an aggressive angle for optimum clearance for no-cans, whips, and slipped pedals. The DJ has geometry that is optimized for a 100mm travel front fork. Although the standard vertical dropouts are adjustable, there is an optional single-speed specific dropout.
The Yeti DJ comes in a glossy Black powdercoat finish in Small, Medium, and Large. It features ISCG '05 chainguide tabs and is not designed to be used with a front derailleur. The tapered headtube requires the use of a Chris King 1.5 Tapered No Threadset or similar headset. It takes a 30.9mm seatpost and accepts standard 10x135mm QR rear hubs. 5lbs (2270g)
