Why We Like The Vasque Breeze Wide Hiking Boot

When we're laced in the Vasque Breeze Wide Hiking Boot, we splash through water crossings and add on side trails without a second thought. The waterproof membrane keeps our feet dry through rain and rivulets, while the plush platform softens our steps, and the mesh inserts boost airflow. Plus, with a wide fit, this pair gives our broader feet plenty of room to flex.

Hiked It. LOVED IT.

Wore these on a 1.5 week long west coast road trip. No break in period at all. I wore them through Yosemite, 14 mile-hike through the Red Woods, and days in Washington (Mt. Rainer and Olympic National). I had to give my husband piggy-back rides through puddles and mud to keep his feet dry. I walked through ankle deep water and walked away completely dry. Not to mention I have wide feet and my feet felt fresh at the end of each day.

Good support not waterproof

I wire these for the first time today. They give great support and are very comfortable. The reason for the two star rating is because they did not keep my socks dry. . I walked through damp grass, and when I got home my socks were wet.

Doesn't stand up to the Breeze III

THIS IS NOT THE SAME BOOT. I was so excited to see the return of the Breeze that I immediately purchased. My first pair of hiking boots was the Breeze II in a 7.5, and when I got a little older I purchased the Breeze III in an 8W. I loved that it had a rigid sole, plenty of space for my square-shaped toe area, and that it had unparalleled ankle support that kept my heel in place and prevented my toes from harm. My foot has gotten a little bigger and I went to purchase this new Breeze model in a 8.5W and am so disappointed. Everything I loved about the Breeze III is gone! Gone is the dual-density midsole which gives the feeling over a thicker sole with a higher torsional rigidity - the new Breeze model has a MUCH higher forefoot flex which I think is fine for a trail runner but cannot stand in a hiking boot. The new Breeze model has a much larger reinforced toe cap that extends to the metatarsals and decreases the total area of that breathable fabric at the top of the toe and at the sides of the boot - this higher profile means that there is much less flexibility at the top of the toe area, a problem for people with a more square foot or upturned toes that enjoyed not hitting a reinforced toe box every step. And the part that upsets me most: The ankle support is just gone. My favorite part of the Breeze III is that I can hike downhill all day and the rigid ankle support locks my heel in place and saves my toes the abuse. I think this is an all around fit change, but they did also change the midfoot locking hooks from a double shank to a single. You see all of these reviews from people who have had their Breezes "for years" and say it is such a great boot - THIS IS NOT THE SAME BOOT. Vasque, I beg of you, bring back the Breeze III!

I had high hopes

Size Bought:
8.5W

I love my Vasque Breeze light gtx mids, the older version. They are just a bit narrow though, so I wanted to try this new version in wide for a multi day hike, since my feet will most likely swell and need the extra toe space. Trying them on in my house the sole felt lumpy and uncomfortable. I honestly thought it was a manufacturing error, it was that bad. Sad to return these and even have to pay the return shipping even though it seems like I got a messed up shoe.

Great looking and comfortable boot

I was trying to replace my previous pair and couldn't find the right sizing, but these are great. They fit well for me for my widish front of foot and narrow heal. Lightweight, and what I really appreciate: not hideously colored! A solid waterproof boot. In running shoes I wear a 6.5 wide (asics), but 7 regular of these fit well.

Good ankle support, uncomfortable sole

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I have done 2- 5 mi hikes in these. Ankle support is great, which is what I got them for. But there is a lack of cushion in the foot bed particularly at the ball of the foot. Early on in the hikes the ball of my foot became painful increasing to decreased sensation in my toes by the end of the hike. I have experienced similar pain when wearing heels but never hiking shoes. Unfortunately, had to return.

Perfect! Comfortable!

I just got back from a trip to Alaska. Just a couple of weeks prior, I decided my old hiking boots were too uncomfortable and that I needed a new pair. I was wary, because I would be going on my trip with shoes that hadn't been broken in. I bought these, knowing I'd need boots that were waterproof and had good tread. And most of all, comfortable. They didn't disappoint! They were comfortable, lightweight, and I was walking on slippery ice and snow and didn't slip once. My sister fell several times. I'm going to enjoy this pair of boots hiking here in my home state of Oregon in the coming years. Oh, and I love the teal color, very attractive pair of boots.
