The above-ankle design and workman’s styling of the Vans Standard Mid MTE Winter Boot matches your dawn-to-dusk days in and out of the office with lunches taken on the hillsides overlooking the urban landscape. The Standard’s 100-gram insulation weight comes in clutch in colder micro-climates or when days stay below freezing. When sloshing through wet sidewalks or muddy trail-crossings, the seam-sealed, fully waterproof construction keeps water out, and the vulcanized rubber sole provides a confident grip on slippery surfaces.

Vans MTE Boot as a winter cycling boot

I use flats on my mountain and gravel bike. I use 5 10 shoes and this year was devastated to find out that 5 10 does not offer their winter boot. I found these Vans and thought they looked good enough to try for mountain and gravel riding. Well they are very terrific. I use an inner sole and I found plenty of room inside for that to fit. There is plenty (but not too much() room to wiggle my toes to keep circulation going there for warmth. I have nor ridden in temperatures below low twenties. At that temp the Vans are plenty warm. The lacing system is a little weird but is works well and easily. The foot is held snugly and there is plenty of room above the ankle so walking is natural. I have not used these for hiking. The sole looks good, it certainly works for flat pedals. Used it for 25 rides
