We've used smaller, thinner Thermarests
We've used smaller, thinner Thermarests for 20 years(!) now. But because we are old, we needed additional padding. These new Base Camp pads, with the fantastic inflate/deflate valves and the larger size and thickness, in combination with the old pads, makes for a super comfortable camping bed for us.

Really comfortable and really big.
Really comfortable and really big. Take the size into consideration. Takes up a lot of room in the car. Worth it though.

It was supposed to be 2” thick, like the one I bought many years ago. This one was a little over 1/2” fully inflated. Returned it
