Great product, large capacity, easy to use.
I use the pack for single and multi day trips. I have used it for several single day hikes, and will use it to hike Kilimanjaro in Tanzania

Excellent Backpack
This backpack is very lightweight. It holds all of my gear and more!! Very easy Adjustments. I am able to carry my weapon with the chest holster as this does not interfere with drawing my weapon. Even with about 70 pounds of gear, the load feels light. I will now have to buy one for my wife.

Supremely Comfortable
Carry comfort is the primary criterion for judging any pack. And the Hydra 38 carries beautifully. It sits high and tight on my back. Load-lifter straps are extraneous on most daypacks, because the short pack frames prevent them from actually working. In this regard, the Hydra is unusual, perhaps unique. The frame extends high enough that my load-lifter straps angle up and back at nearly a text-book 45° angle. That's common on backpacks, but almost unheard of on daypacks. And it makes a difference, allowing you to tighten the load-lifters, bow the frame, and create a sensation that the pack is levitating slightly rather than dragging down on your butt. The shoulder straps are fine on the men's Hydra. (Though they're far too broad, stiff and heavy on the women's version.) Ventilation is good but not great, though I can't complain given how comfortably this pack carries. A very welcome innovation is how the main compartment opens with a two-handed tug, and closes with a one-handed pull. No need to fuss with a toggle. The pack material is supposed to dry fast, but I've not yet put that to the test. Finally, the gold color is refreshingly different. In summary, the Hydra 38 has exceeded even my high expectations of TNF packs. I believe TNF has long made the world's most innovative daypacks and backpacks. Guiding and writing guidebooks is my business, and all my packs are TNF.

Extremely capable pack. Does it all for me!
I love this pack. I bought it to replace an old pack of mine (of another brand). The 38L size is perfect for the essentials for an overnight or two (or three) backpacking trip. I just did three days, in winter conditions, in the Adirondacks High Peaks region. I was able to get all my gear including a zero-bag, bivvy, mountain stove, kettle, change of clothes, water filter, first aid kit, headlamps, and other essentials in the main bag. I kept my food sack in the "beaver tail" back pouch, and strapped a tent, 2 thermarest pads, and a tarp to the bottom of the pack. I also carried snowshoes( I used two of own straps around the bag for snowshoe attachment) crampons, and an ice axe, along with my microspikes. Perfect! Total pack weight with all my gear was less than 38lbs. And that's for a sub-freezing multi day journey over 22 miles!
