These are not the same Ahnu boots...
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
- Size Bought:
- 6.5
I have 2 pairs of these boots from when they were originally owned by Ahnu and they are the comfiest boots I have ever owned...unfortunately I believe the company was recently bought by Teva/switched production sites and they are not the same quality! I have had these new boots for about a month, to give them a decent shot at breaking in with regular wear, and they are still eating at the back of my heels. They feel like they run larger than they used to and are just not as comfy° when you put them on. There are small noticeable changes, like no tab on the back of the boot and differences in heel structure. It’s unfortunate, but I probably won’t be buying another pair unless they go back to the original format. Just buyer beware if you think you are getting the same boot as before. (Left is new, right boot is old)

Almost had to be life-flighted

These boots are beautiful and have a great amount of ankle support (I have a history of ankle sprains). I broke them out by hiking about 15 miles in them and noticed that the breathability was off and the toe box was narrow (my feet are not wide and by all measures pretty standard). I took them on a 100 miler thinking they'd be fine and they would stretch out a little more, and really thought the ankle support would be a big plus, what happened throughout the hike BECAUSE of these shoes almost led me to become life-flighted (thank GOODNESS for CHA*OS). They were so narrow combined with no breathability that within two days into our trip I had over 17 blisters, many occurring on around the toe box and the sides of my feet. I switched to my water sandals previously mentioned above, but my gait was already off due to the blisters- this caused my hip flexor to pop out of place 40 miles into the backcountry (we almost life-flighted at this point) luckily was able to find a dirt road about 10 miles away and wait hours for a car to drive by. I also developed severe plantar fasciitis on both feet. It took me one full year of physical therapy to get my feet back to their normal condition. The poor, overly thick construction of these shoes felt like a sweaty prison for my feet. I will never buy another shoe from Ahnu/teva and almost feel like I have an obligation to post my review to warn others. I had the correct size, I triple checked and tried them on in stores comparing with other sizes, I "broke" these shoes in and yes I went against my better judgement and overlooked what I thought at the time to be small issues. From what I understand Ahnu was initially a yoga based company that switched over to outdoor shoes and then was acquired by Teva. They are not and do not have a long history with the backpacking industry.

I have had these boots for over 4 years and just love how they fit. My feet feel so much better in these boots! I would like to get another pair in black but that color is not one of the options that I saw.
