Cannonball Tire

Designed for coarse gravel where flint rock threatens to leave you stranded miles from the nearest signs of civilization, the Teravail Cannonball Tire combines exceptional abrasion reinforcement, high levels of grip, and plentiful width to float across loose gravel surfaces. The Cannonball's directional tread pattern features a tight-knit center for lower rolling resistance, with raised side knobs digging aggressively into gravel and dirt surfaces while cornering. Not only does this tread pattern offer a nice balance of traction and rolling speed, but it sheds dirt and debris to maintain grip across mixed dirt and gravel surfaces.

The Durable Casing and Premium versions feature bead-to-bead reinforcement with a woven aramid layer that's twice as strong as its Kevlar-reinforced counterparts. This ensures full protection from ride-stopping flats and sidewall tears when you're pedaling over sharp stones and flat-causing debris. If you're seeking a smooth and supple ride where sharp rocks aren't an issue, choose the Light and Supple casing for the best possible ride quality. All versions of the Cannonball are tubeless-ready, allowing you to drastically lower tire pressure for compliance over bumpy gravel, higher levels of traction, and greater pinch-flat resistance.

Measures narrow, 1 tire (defective)

This review is for one 35 and one 38 model. The 35 tire I received had a mfg defect resulting in a large wobble after being properly installed. Returned as "defective" before use (I love Backcountry for their ease of returns). Also note, these tires measured very narrow and not true to size. The 35 measured at 32.23 (with digital calipers) at its widest point when aired up to the lowest recommended psi unweighted and the 38 I ordered measured slightly over 35.

Great for poor roads

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

The streets here around PDX can be pretty torn up, with debris of all kinds scattered everywhere. Regular road tires are faaar too hard and smooth to handle anything but the pretty lanes downtown or out in the West burbs. Swapped out those stiff-jacket tires years ago for the widest tires that would fit my forks and frame to give a bit more cushion for the busted pavement, with just enough knobs to prevent sliding around on all the sand, gravel, broken glass, and smashed plastic we see out past the hills. Been working great so far, with a nice smooth roll at modest pressures. Only time will tell about longevity, but they've been great so far.

700x38 light & supple - They mount easily (even with just a floor pump) they ride smooth on pavement, grip great on a wide range of gravel surfaces, not so wonderful in the mud, but they're not intended for that, & look sharp - I got around 3K miles on them on varied surfaces & I don't recall having had a single flat. Couldn't be happier. I have them on a Niner RDO-RLT Carbon with Stan's Grail S1 wheelset & it feels like they were meant to be together.

Greater than expected!

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

I've ridden these on all sorts of mixed terrain (including some ice) and I love how sure footed this makes my bike feel. These are pretty fast rolling too, I never feel I'm pushing harder than expected. I haven't set these up tubeless but plan to in the future. Initially getting them onto the rims was a bit of a challenge but once installed were easy to get on and off after that.
