Works as advertised
- Familiarity:

I have used this as well as the discontinued larger pot for quite a while and find that they work well for what they are designed for. As with any french press the most taxing part of the process is cleaning the pot after use but this one seems pretty easy to use. The ability to brew the coffee and toss it into an included thermos is well done and the ability to used the thermos for other items makes this kit pull double duty, which is always nice in camping gear. I agree this is a bit big for backpacking-instant coffee makes the most sense here in my mind-but for anything else I think it works great. I docked it one star since there are plastic components in the pot which precludes using it on an open fire without a lot of care to protect the handle. I have included a video that shows one being used for reference.

I want to love this but defective
Handle collapses and will not stay open when lifting boiling hot water from stove. I was very careful to keep burner on very low so as to not heat handle up. That is not the problem. The little black stay does not slide all the way out in order to catch and so when lifting boiling water, handle collapses closed. I will be contacting Stanley about this design defect.

Best suited for car camping
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
Functions as advertised, fit over-top of a canister stove very nicely. Unfortunately there is no lid for the "pot" you heat the water in, bringing the water to temperature could be done more quickly. All in all pretty good tool, probably too heavy/bulky for someone thru hiking or looking to keep pack size/weight manageable in the back country. I would recommend leaving the thermos portion behind if you plan on drinking the coffee straight away in a mug.
