Well designed with some shortcomings

These boots are an alternative to Simms Flats Sneakers which are narrow and run small. They have sufficient width to accommodate neoprene socks for saltwater wade fishing or waders. They are robust, well designed for a corrosive saltwater environment, and at an attractive price point. In my opinion the vibrant sole and lugs are way too thin and will wear prematurely. The sides of the boot are made of sheet polyurethane and are somewhat rigid. What I strongly dislike is the large embossed Simms logo on the side of the boot. It just looks tacky and cheap. Other quality fly fishing manufacturers use discrete logos on the products. They also come with a California camera warning tag. Rather than exposing the user to a known carcinogen and exposing rivers to a carcinogenic chemical it would be better not to use products with carcinogens in them. Simms is a quality company with quality well designed and well crafted products. These boots fall short of Simms normally high standards, but they have many fine qualities.

These are great boots tough and durable , when walking over coral flats give your feet the protection you need. The non marking soles are nice when traveling in the boat. It takes about 5 days to break them in so buy early before your saltwater trip.

Great Wading Boot especially if you have wide feet

Simms has a winner with these boots. If you have a wide foot like mine EEE, walking 5 miles in these boots is a pleasure. I logged over 100 days of walking the flats in these boots and they are without a doubt the best and most comfortable wading boots I have ever used in 45 years. Highly recommended!!!

Fantastic quality boots. Used them for Duck Hunting this past season and you would think they are still brand new. Great Quality and extremely comfortable. Worth the money!

Great boots for either salt or fresh water wading. They are comfortable and fit well. Yes, I’d purchase them again.

Sms FreeSalt Boots Perform as Advertised!

I wore these boots all season in NJ surf and backbay areas with excellent performance results. The boot design really does keep excessive sand out of the boot, whether worn with stocking-foot waders (Orvis Pro Series) or worn for wet wading with rather old Simms neoprene socks. New Jersey beach sand comes in all sizes, from ultra-fine "Jersey Sugar" to course, pumped-in sand used for beach replenishment. The Simms FreeSalt design kept the most invasive sand to a minimum, making long hikes back to the parking lot much more pleasant. Likewise, backbay wading and mid-summer wet wading has been a lot more enjoyable with these boots, they may even replace my flats boots!
