Schwalbe's all-condition, all-weather 26in tire, the Fat Albert EVO Snakeskin TL, uses a race-developed Evolution carcass to place it on the lighter end of the trail-tire spectrum. Achieving a sub-800 gram 2.4-inch tire is no easy accomplishment, and it often leads to compromises in critical areas like sidewall protection.
However, this isn't the case for the Fat Albert EVO, because it uses Schwalbe's Snakeskin technology. This means that the sidewalls are reinforced with a crosshatched pattern that makes it less vulnerable to pinches and tears. Conversely this makes tubeless installation much easier due to the Snakeskin sidewall being more malleable than a dual-wall tire.
On the other hand, like dual-wall tires -- and given the Fat Albert's name -- this tire has serious volume that allows for large, well-spaced lugs that shed mud, yet confidently bite without any excessive flexing. Additionally, there are a mix of perpendicular split and angled knobs along the center, with angled side knobs for positive traction when leaning into turns.
The tread patterns are slightly modified for front and rear specific patterns that improve efficiency and handling. Also, the rubber compounds are specific for front and rear applications. At the front is Schwalbe's TrailStar formula that maximizes control with a dual compound featuring softer rubber along the sides. The Rear is treated with the durable PaceStar compound. This ensures that tire wear is consistent between the two tires, and that traction is balanced for neutral handling.
The Schwalbe Fat Albert EVO Snakeskin 26 TL Tire is available individually as either a 26x2.25 or 26x2.4in Front or Rear Tire. Please note that this tire is also tubeless ready.
