I was lucky to find a like new used pair online. I had bought the previous model from Backcountry earlier. I used that original pair all over the Alps and loved them, I should have bought the next model when they were still in stock. I think the second generation are narrower because Salomon went with a unisex sizing , so make sure you size up at least a half size if not a full size if you have normal or wider feet. I am a 10.5 and I find a 11 a little snugger than I would like,. The quality is awesome and it is just a great all around boot for being in the Alps, I would gladly grab this boot for climbs on Hood, Shasta, Baker, or any other mountain where being fast and light is important. I use the petzl Vasak crampon with them, you can turn those crampons into a flex crampon by adjusting the lengthening bar into the flex position. I have used them on Rainier and the only thing I'd be worried about is how cold it gets when there is a high pressure front and the temps plummet , I purchased a pair of Forty Below K2 overboots incase the temps drop, I haven't had to use them yet, but I have noticed my feet get colder than being in one other the other heavier rigid mountaineering boots I own. I am super bummed that Salomon has moved away from making this sort of boot, where Scarpa and La Sportiva seem to be filling the void with their new lineup.
