When the conditions are muddy but the race is kicking off no matter what, this is the shoe you want to turn to. A special Soft Ground (SG) version of one of Salomon's most trusted trail-racing shoes, it's got deeper lugs and a tackier rubber than the standard version, so you can maintain secure footing even through wet and muddy conditions. Also specific to the SG is a comfortable integrated gaiter at the ankle to help keep mud and any other unwanted debris from sneaking into your shoe.

It feels good and is the first choice for trail ru
I bought it few months ago, I so happy that has made up for the concern of sands into the shoes.

Amazing, nimble ride. A few drawbacks:
This shoe is so fast. I'm looking forward to do all of my faater climbs in the sense 8 sg. It really does feel like an extension if your foot while running trails. The heel width is perfect, I had no issues with the fit although it's allways nice when the inside of the toe box doesn't slope inward for no reason other than to promote bunions, weak arches, ect. That wasn't too much or an issue here, but was noticeable. A few questions/issues: I don't understand why the profilm plate doesn't extend to the heel. When descending at full speed in this shoe (an obvious use case if you're looking for fkt's ect. There is no way to just be carefull about what your heel hits. You have to place your forefoot somewhere, and while your forefoot will feel amazing and very nimble, the bottom of the heel is actually quite perilously exposed to sharp rocks. Many mountains have extensive gravel/dirt trails with sharp rock fields/ridges near the peak. Why not make it just a little bit more versatile? The foam also creased almost immediately, but I am hopefully that this shoe will last for at least 100 miles of quick climbing/descending. The feel and ride are amazing, so I hope that this isn't an issue. I wonder if it's really just an outdated lightweight foam in use here. A little surprising for the price. Overall a very fun product, I would recommend them to certain people, especially if on sale. The low drop feels great! I try to bounce between 0 mm and 8 mm drops, but 4 is perfect. Some have noted that it feels like -4 mm at times. I hope that the next iteration promotes actually finishing races in this shoe by extending the plate to the heel.

I'd Wear Them To Work In A Suit
I bought these last month for strictly trail running, and now I hit the gym, the grocery store and even run errands with them on. They are extremely comfortable and light-weight. I may have taken them off once this month to shower. Highly recommended for comfort and style.

Fast shoe
I've now covered 100+ miles in these and the only thing I can fault is the amount of cushioning underfoot. Don't get me wrong, for anything up to 45k they have been perfect. Snow, steep muddy descents they're miles in front of anything else I've ran in. When it comes to anything longer, and more time on harder surfaces, you can(will) notice the.lack if cushioning. 6yeard on Hokas and I won't go back. I'm faster, more confident, less injury prone and enjoy the the response from the shoe...

Blisters and rubbed raw
I have raced in every Sense since 5. They have only gotten better until now. The lack of any ankle collar material to reduce heel slippage caused both heels to rub raw and blister. The poorly placed lace garage evened out the experience by chewing up the top of my foot. The resulting pain caused me to fall from 2nd to 18th by the end of the race. The fit and quality of the Sense series has always been so good that I have sung their praises to anyone that would listen, until now. Design the shoe to fit properly first then worry about how to work in the gaitor.

Secure fit but take the SG seriously!
I'm a huge Salomon fan and bought these more out of interest than need. I can't use them all the time as my feet are strong but not conditioned for how thin the soles of these shoes are. I LOVE them for going for a quick rip on soft ground (that's why they're called SG) but I have to go fairly gingerly if I run into rough terrain, which is common where I play. These were built to be fast and light and that they are. I do love using these shoes but they're definitely not my daily driver. I train in the Sense 8 and use the Ultra 3 for longer distances.

More pros than cons
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
I was able to use my other gatored Salomon shoes while In Chamonix and in the rest of the Alps. They were fabulous. I also had a chance to see the custom built sock shoes Salomon was going to be offering from certain European Salomon stores at the little vendors village that was put up after the UTMB. They blew my mind with how light they were. I live in the States, so those were never an option for me. When I saw these and already being a avid fan of Salomon gatored shoes, I had to give these a try. What I like.. The gator, it makes getting into the shoe a little bit more of a hassle, but the debris protection is so worth it. I love how lightweight they are and they are the closest thing I have seen to those custom Salomon shoes I saw. I love the Contagrip soles on all my Salomon shoes, so these I know I can trust these while out on the trail. Not having that trust as your brain gets used to what and where you can place your foot is super important, so you don't have to worry about your foot placement constantly. I have used other shoes and ended up on the ground as my foot has gone out from under me. I love the consistency of the Contagrip soles and that trust is super important to me. The only negatives I can think of and they aren't really negatives, knowing they are a race shoe. They don't give any firmness from what you feel underfoot, you feel everything. I first got them and was standing outside, It was almost a weird feeling, I could tell there was small rocks on the ground, something that in any of my other shoes I don't think I would have noticed. I don't think it is a bad thing, it is just a weird sensation having a shoe that allows you to feel certain things underfoot that you normally don't experience. I also had the same break in that I experienced in one other pair of shoes from Salomon, a linear tightness from the bottom of the laces, running left and right on my right foot, with a negligible amount of the same pressure on my left foot. I know feet are different, but I know that these shoes were problem. They are already getting better after a few uses, but I can still feel the difference. Overall, I got them for going back to Chamonix and the Alps. Packing for a month and a half trip was time consuming and daunting in what to bring and what to leave home, packing for mountaineering, along with runs, hikes and scrambles, then having to haul that gear around if you do any traveling between locations, or to other parts of Europe, or even hauling everything back home. I have no problem trying to come up with the lightest gear I can, so I can enjoy myself once I get there. And don't worry.. You will fit right in. The amount of cool gear you see people wearing and using is insane. These shoes fit my mindset in what I am trying to accomplish with my gear. Go light, go light, go light.

Missing sensi-fit
I bought thèse in the beginning of summer and I keep getting blisters out of them. I had s-lab sneakers for a long time and never had that problem. The only big comfort difference I can think of is that sensi-fit layer inside that normaly makes your feet very comfortable. The shoe is very light, and the sole is very good as well. The shoe is made out of some kind of mesh which drains very well if you’re running in wet areas. I love the shoe and I’m still hoping my problem is just a longer break in process. I might recommend these as they are overall interesting
