Why We Like The Rocky Mountain Instinct Carbon 30 Shimano Mountain Bike

When we don't know what the trail holds for us an don't know if we are going to be under or over biked, we trust our Instinct. The Rocky Mountain Instinct is a mid-travel trail bike that was designed to excel on the majority of trails. Sitting squarely in that Goldilocks zone for mountain bikes, the Instinct sports 140mm of Smoothlink suspension for an efficient pedaling bike that climbs and descends with ease. Rocky mountain implemented size-specific tunes to give every rider an optimal ride feel by fine-tuning suspension kinematics to ensure trail-ready performance. Whether we want to slacken out the geometry for more capability on steeper terrain, or steepen up our angles for an all day pedal fest, Rocky Mountain's Ride-9 adjustment system gives us a range of nine settings to customize our frame geometry and ride feel toward our preferences. The 2-position adjustable axle allows us to adjust our chainstay length independently of our frame geometry to give us a more stable or playful ride. A 65.1 to 66.2-degree head tube angle allows us to be more composed, confident, and stable in steeper terrain while maintaining snappy handling on flatter ground. A medium-length wheelbase and a steep 76.6-degree seat tube angle give us an efficient climbing position, and a stable platform for a balanced ride feel. and the integrated downtube and chainstay protectors keep our frame protected from the chain, rocks, and bottom-outs.

The Carbon 30 Shimano build of the Rocky Mountain Instinct boasts incredible value and comes complete with trail-ready components. Rocky Mountain's Smoothwall carbon frame is made with premium materials for an impressive strength-to-weight ratio and durability. Next, Shimano's Deore 12-speed drivetrain sports a wide range and a reliable, value-based build. Deore 4-piston brakes have a great bite and have tons of stopping power, while the WTB ST Light i30 TCS 2.0 rims give us confidence plowing down chunky trails. The 150mm Marzocchi Z2 Float EVOL Rail fork soaks up bigger hits with ease, while the Fox Float DPS Performance rear shock is lightweight and has a custom tune for optimal performance.

This bike has been a great all around machine. Ridden it a couple times so far and only good reviews.
