DV3K Clincher Wheelset

Wheels can be mysterious things. Because they're made of multiple components and there are the associated variables related to use, it's not surprising that choices are difficult. The Reynolds DV3K Clincher Wheelset looks to simplify things. They utilize all-carbon 46mm deep clincher rims that are light, aerodynamically efficient, and strong enough for 'cross. Better yet, they're attractive in a euro' sort of way, with the top layer made of a high-gloss 3k carbon weave that gives them a look that calls attention to the rim material and complements the bike.

At 46mm, these rims are a great depth. They're aero enough to make a big difference when you're going fast, but still light enough, thanks to the all-carbon rim construction, not to be an impediment when going uphill.

Reynolds straightforward naming conventions make it easy. DV is Deep V, which is their way of saying 46mm deep, deeper than the 32mm Mid V (MV) and shallower than the 66mm Super Deep V (SDV). 3K refers to the 3k carbon weave finish. This rim shares a similar shape with Reynolds' other 46mm rims, with one slight change; the spoke side of the rim is blunter than their other shapes. The rim has Reynolds Vibration Management System (VMS) technology; the lay-up of the carbon fiber was designed to damp road vibrations before they reach the frame and fork. Reducing road vibration might not seem like a big deal, but it will add comfort. This means you can go as fast as usual with less fatigue or go faster with equal fatigue.

As with other Reynolds wheels, the spoke nipples are internal. This makes for a stronger wheel and better aerodynamics. The front wheel has 20 radial DT Revolution spokes laced to a Reynolds hub. The rear wheel has 24 DT spokes laced to a Reynolds hub as well; the 12 non-drive side spokes are radially-laced and are DT Revolutions, the 12 drive side spokes are two-cross and are DT Competitions.

The Reynolds DV3K Clincher Wheelset is Shimano-compatible 700c only and is designed for tube-type clincher tires. You'll get Reynolds Cryo-Blue pads, the only pads Reynolds recommends with their wheels. They also come with rims strips and a set of Reynolds steel-shafted alloy quick release skewers.
