Why We Like The Blacksmith 6in Boot

Back in the day, the Red Wing Heritage Blacksmith 6in Boot would have been worn when we were shoeing a horse or tilling the field. Today, we can wear it when we're wrenching on our bike or taking a ride downtown.

The natural leather upper is built to break in for more comfort over time, and the boot is made with a Goodyear welt, ensuring it will withstand the test of time. The Mini-lug Vibram sole offers adequate traction whether you're working in the fields or taking a walk through stumptown.

Super Dope !

My Blacksmiths are about 3 years old. I broke them in by walking 5.8 miles afterwork on the boardwalk in Ocean City in the dead of winter, my walking club would laugh at me, and I’d be a liar if I said it wasn’t tough.. It was the best break I’ve ever pulled off, I wear ‘em with no socks all the time these bad boys are like gloves on my feet.. The only treatment I ever do is some Hubbards Shoe Grease if I remember, I just smear it all over the seams, just in case… I was stomping around in puddles just the other day thinking about what a great product RedWing makes, I have boots from the other ‘big’ brands, my #8 Last Blacksmiths are my goto, if I can’t wear FlipFlops, Love ‘em , they are Super Dope !

Broken Laces

Love the boots, the laces broke after a handful of wearing the boots. Will Redwing replace?

Nice Looking but Not the Quality I Expected

I bought a pair of Iron Rangers about 8 years ago, and I loved them. They have held up amazing. So I decided to purchase the Blacksmith in Black to wear as a dress boot. Out of the box, these were some handsome shoes. Unfortunately that did not last long. I wore them to work, an office based setting, and I was quite surprised how easy the leather scuffed up. Worst of all was how quickly you could see the underlining leather. It was evident the black dyed job was not very deep. I have tried to polish them but unfortunately they do not look the same. I am pretty mad as I wanted a nice dress boot and am really disappointed how poorly the black leather held up. Not the quality I have become accustomed to. I really liked these shoes and would love to exchange them, but I am not certain if other ones will have the same flaw.

Scratched This Much After Just 3 Wears

I love the design and finish of these boots, but I’m not happy with the durability. I’ve only worn them a few times, and they already have scratches. I’ve heard that Red Wing boots are meant to last a lifetime, and I was happy with how they looked at first. But after just three wears—not even in rough or harsh environments, just walking in the city—I noticed scratches on the outside of the boots. I understand that scratches on the inside can happen naturally while walking, but I didn’t expect the outside to get marked so easily. If these boots are supposed to last a lifetime, I’m not sure how that’s possible when they scratch this easily. If they are this delicate, I don’t know if I can confidently wear them outside.

Update Rose Anvil Kilties

I have had my Blacksmiths for about 9 months now a minimal break end phase is well over. I decided to give my boots a boost in flavor by adding Rose Anvil Kilties. I was able to find every color assortment that RW offers in Rose Anvil's extensive selection of Kilties. The Kilties gave my boots a bit more flavor than expected.

What a boot!

I love my Iron Rangers and wanted a black pair of boots and figured the Blacksmiths would be just as comfortable given they are almost identical in build. Honestly, I love these just as much and actually found them easier to break in, no suffering at all…zero. I own three pairs of Red Wings. Since I rotate their use, and I’m in my late 50s, I can tell these boots are going to outlive me… for real.

COMFORT AND DURABILITY

I expected a break-in period but these blacksmiths were comfortable out of the box. Soft but supportive and the fit was perfect for me. No chafing, roomy but not loose. The traction was good even in wet weather. And they are fine to wear even during hot and humid days where I live. Chose the copper rough and tough because I think the look is so classic and understated. Love the versatility as well. Can use them with just about every pair of pants and (even shorts) in my closet. I wear them almost everyday and feel they’ll stand up to all the walking I do. Well worth the price and looking forward to picking up more Red Wing boots down the line.

Another great boot from Red Wing Shoes

Just bought these and very comfortable out of the box. Went up a little from my usual size in Red Wing (10.5) to 11. If these were suede, definitely would have stayed with 10.5. Nice fit and finish. The toe looks more bulbous in photos than in person.

Nice Boots

This was my first pair of Red Wings, and I enjoy them. I bought these boots at the museum in Red Wing, Minnesota and they have been a pleasure to wear over the last 8 months. I have had no issues wearing them 3 days a week since purchase.
