Why We Like The Positron Pro Down Jacket

It's difficult to not envy those fuzzy mountain goats when we're exposed to very cold conditions for long periods of time, but now they're jealous of us when we're in Rab's Positron Pro Down Jacket. This down filled jacket is designed to optimize warmth and mobility while minimizing bulk so we can get out and explore even in very cold conditions.

Thanks to its Nikwax hyrophobic goose down insulation, stitch-through sides and arms, and boxwall torso and hood, this jacket keeps your body heat where it needs to be for cold adventures. With a Pertex® Quantum Pro shell and flexible lining, this jacket lets you hike, climb, and explore with freedom of movement even when the sky opens up and dumps snow.

This is the warmest coat I have ever purchased. EVER!!!! That being said, it is NOT form-fitting. I look like a giant blue marshmallow or Ralphie's brother from A Christmas Story... but alas, I am warm. :) I have taken it on mountain backpacking trips/winter adventures and I have been super comfy/at times really toasty in -20 degrees C and below. Of course I accompany it with a base layer, mid layer, and more depending on conditions. My favorite features of this coat: the hood has a brim which keeps it from sliding down over your eyes, it is a bit longer in the back which keeps your bum nice and warm when sitting down, it comes with a stuff sack so you can pack it down really small, and the hydrophobic down and Pertex Quantum material have kept me dry in unexpected snowstorms (which I love as I do not have to worry about quickly switching/adding layers)!! Before I purchased this coat, I was looking for a product that could keep me warm, minimize the amount of layers I was wearing, AND could handle moisture as Mother Nature can change her mind in a split second. The Rab Positron checked many of my boxes!! I have taken this coat backcountry snowboarding and cross-country skiing and I do not quite recommend it for those activities (but that is just my opinion)! When I was snowboarding, I was not able to be as mobile and flexible as I would like. Cross-country skiing was similar and I was WAY too hot, whew!!! Using it for backpacking, winter hikes/winter camping, mountaineering though - it is perfect!!
