At 3.5oz, the Swift RL Headlamp is Petzl's lightest, smallest light with Reactive Lighting, and we are huge fans. Catching attention from trail runners, ski mountaineers, and mountain bikers, Reactive Lighting analyzes ambient light to automatically adjust the headlamp's brightness to the amount necessary in any given moment. It brightens when you're staring down an extremely dark rappel and dims on sunset runs up sharp switchbacks or as the sun rises during dawn patrol or alpine starts.

Doesn't Hold Charge, Changes Brightness
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
This headlamp doesn't hold it's charge. On multiple occasions I've pulled this headlamp out of my pack only to find it's depleted, despite being off and "locked". The reactive lighting is also a bad feature, especially when it's snowy. The falling snowflakes in front of the sensor cause the light to flicker in intensity.

Poor design, no red light
- Familiarity:
- I returned this product before using it
I figured Petzl's most expensive consumer headlamp would also mean it's the best, but I personally don't believe that's the case. The fact that this headlamp doesn't have a red light feature for seeing at night, but not blinding them, is huge points off from me. Why would they not include this feature on a more expensive headlamp??? Another feature that is frustrating is that you have to cycle through all of the lighting levels in order to turn off the headlamp. Seems like major oversights and poor design.

Great Headlamp not good with heavy rain
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
Had it for a year and worked great when it was working. Got caught in a torrential downpour, let it dry fully, and now the light won't turn on. I think it would be better if it were a higher IPX rating

Best headlamp I've ever had

I used to always buy the lowest end headlamps from Black Diamond and Petzl. I did this because it's such a ubiquitous tool that I seem to lose them like chapstick or sunglasses (or they accidentally end up in my friend's gear bag because everyone thinks it's theirs). However, I really needed a higher lumens headlamp for XC skiing and trail runs after work in the winter time (begin before sunset, finish after dusk). So I decided to "invest" in this headlamp. - It's my first rechargeable headlamp and I love that. Batteries aren't fun TBH, I'll only go back to battery headlamps for thru-hiking/backpacking trips. So I think I will always own two headlamps. - Quick to recharge - if I'm heading to the trailhead and forgot to charge it, I'll plug it into the outlet in my van and have enough juice for my run/XC ski. - Comfortable - great on the back of my head, and there's a nice pad behind the lamp. - Super bright.

I've used this head lamp for about a month now and it has been wonderful. I love that th's rechargable and the brightness is easily adjusted. The strap also fits quite comfortably and doesn't require a lot of adjusting. I've used it for morning trail running since the recent time change and this winter plan to use it for nordic skiing. This is a wonderful product and I look forward to using it for years to come!

Excellent Headlamp

The PETZL SWIFT RL greatly exceeded my expectations. The 900 lumen lamp is perfect for lighting up even the darkest of trails, illuminating all the potential hazards that may otherwise cut my run short. The reactive lighting works wonderfully for running the city streets, automatically adjusting for any available ambient light. This is another fantastic product from PETZL.
