Why We Like The Patagonia Nano-Air Insulated Hooded Jacket

The iconic Patagonia Nano-Air Hooded Jacket meets the challenge of insulating us for stop-and-go activities in the cold—keeping us warm when we're at rest while also dumping excess heat when we're playing hard. Thinner and lighter than most insulated hoodies, the Nano-Air traps warm air around our body for warmth while the nylon lining and synthetic insulation combine for excellent breathability and air permeability, so we don't overheat when we're bouldering, hiking, running, or skinning our way up the mountain.

The FullRange insulation also stretches with us for generous freedom of movement—whether we're reaching through the crux move or reaching for a tail clip as we rip skins on a windy ridge. There are warmer hoodies out there, but few do a better job of regulating our temperature to keep us warm—but not too warm—as we alternate between low-intensity and high-intensity activities, stop and go, downhills and uphills. It's another classic from Patagonia.

One of my favorite jackets!

I bought this jacket to replace an earlier model I've had for at least 7 or 8 years. I'm an amateur photographer and I use it instead of a puffer jacket when walking trails and pathways because of thorns and snags. In fact it was a snag that finally did in my old jacket. But I love it - it is light and comfortable. The insulation is sufficient to keep you comfortable when you're very active and allows moisture to dissipate, keeping me drier than other jackets. The fabric has a bit of stretch in it and it has four outer pockets - two hand pockets and one on either side of the zipper on the chest. All in all, I think this is a great jacket for being active outdoors.

Don’t buy the new version

Familiarity:: I've put it through the wringer

The new cut of this jacket and new insulation is just not even close to as good as the original. The sleeves are massive. The insulation is hardly anything at all. Save yourself the return and don’t buy

I love the weight of this jacket. It is warm and well made. I ended up giving the one I purchased to my son because of the fit. If you are not a small frame person I would pass.
