Exploring new and familiar trails just got easier with Osprey's Skarab 18 Hydration Pack. With a minimalist design, the Skarab 18 is great for light and fast day hikes, mountain biking, and around town wear, while the addition of a foam framesheet with center stiffener makes the Skarab capable of comfortable carrying up to twenty-five pounds.
The main compartment is easily accessed through the front zippered panel, and the stretch side pockets are great for stashing water bottles—although, the included 2.5-liter hydration reservoir is typically capable of carrying all the water you'll need for a full day in the mountains. Osprey kept the look and design of the Skarab streamlined, with just two side compression straps and a front bungee cord that can be used to secure everything from light layers to trekking poles.

Sweet backpack but uncomfy waist strap
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
The waist strap connection point is attached in a way that it just digs into my waist. Instead of sewing the straps directly to the backpack they sewed on a tightener then sewed the strap to that causing it to jet out and rub against my back.

4.5/5 mostly for the bladder.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] 4.5/5 mostly for the bladder. Magnetic chest strap takes a minute to get used to/figure out how to undo. Nice for light loads. I am able to throw an extra layer in and a small rain jacket no problem. I use the small top pocket for keys/wallet, snacks, headlamp, other tiny stuff. Daisy chain is nice for attaching hat/gps/kula cloth to. I am able to fit a small camera cube in it upright for easy access without digging through the bag. The peak designs capture clip fits on the straps just fine even though they are thin. I used a bladder I previous owned rather than the one that came with it so far. The design of the bladder is poor. No quick disconnect from the hose for cleaning or hose routing is dumb. There should be a disconnect somewhere that you don’t have to pay extra for/ install yourself. Also I had to watch a YouTube video showing how hard you had to peel to open the bladder the first time bc I thought I was going to rip it. Not sure I could reach the side bottle pockets to drink from. They fit z-poles well though. Great durable material like you’d expect. Not a ton of breathing on the back like you’d expect without a vented back panel but not overly hot or sweaty. Comfortable for what it is, a big bucket, lol. I got it for super cheap so super worth it. I’d be really disappointed in the bladder if I payed full price.

I have the 22 litre
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have the 22 litre version of this bag and I like it a lot better. The shoulder straps on the 22 are wider. The buckles on the hip belt on the 18 are digging in to my sides…

Skarab 18 is the best
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Skarab 18 is the best backpack I’ve ever owned. Literally I use it for day trips, 10+ miles hikes, going to the store, walk my dog etc. I use it in Costa Rica near to the beach and my back is always dry even though the weather is warm and sometimes rainy. The fit is perfect, my back and shoulders never hurts. The bladder included is amazing. Is easy to clean and leakproof. I even use it for my dog by just pinching the end lol Things I can carry: Wallet Earphones Individual first aid kit Water bladder included Dog toys and treats Rain jacket Extra shirt and shorts. Socks Snacks If Osprey ever updates this backpack I would recommend to add loops for hiking poles and a rain cover.
