The size overall is great

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The size overall is great for my small frame. When the tool kit is loaded it does take away from internal storage. The waist pockets are smaller than expected. I can store my inhaler in it but not much else. I wish the strap material wound up like my old MULE, and I wish the waist belt could be stowed or detached. Overall I like it and it has done well on hikes, bike rides, and paddle boarding. It even makes a decent purse. The water bladder is easy to install and remove. But I wish the bite valve had a cover. I’m 5’2 and 180lbs for reference.

If there were a stronger word than HATE I would use it

Rarely do I ever feel the need to write a bad review, but this pack leaves me with no other choice. I have been a Camelback user for almost 20 years. My hubs bought the Osprey Siskin 8 a few years back and would not stop raving about it. I was due for a new pack for mountain biking so was convinced to give Osprey a try. I do A LOT of trail work while I ride as well so I was attracted to the capacity of the Raven 14 model. For 3 years I have done nothing but fight with this pack. The bladder does not load in what I think is an intuitive manner (and I have purposely kept using for over 2 seasons thinking I would adapt. I have not). More importantly I have tried to get myself in the habit of ""locking"" the mouthpiece when I set it down because it will leak continuously if I don't. I never had to do this with my CB mouthpieces. The mouthpiece twist to lock motion is cumbersome as well which doesn't encourage me to be more disciplined about doing that. The magnet to attach the mouthpiece to the shoulder strap has been useless since day one. A friend who rides and also has an Osprey says the same about hers so we end up tucking them under the strap. Tonight I had my final straw when I walked into our bike room to find water all over the floor that had leaked out of the mouthpiece that I obviously hadn't locked because (1) I forgot again - my fault but (2) because it's so cumbersome I avoid using that feature as mentioned before. I am actually sorry to write this because I do like the storage but I simply cannot tolerate the bladder issues. I will likely swap the Osprey bladder for another brand but hate I have to do that.

Great Product

So far I've just used it for bicycling short distance but plan on using it for walking and cycling. The magnet on the hose is great; very easy to drink while riding. Really comfortable straps and didn't seem heavy, even with the bladder filled with water. The main issue I had is, I've never used a hydration pack and this came with no instructions or anything. I had to search for and watch some videos online to figure out exactly how to use it. If not for that issue, it'd be 5 stars.

Great for hiking too!

I use this for day hikes, and it's perfect for organizing my basic emergency essentials plus whatever is needed for the day. Others have disliked all of the pockets but I really like having such great organization. I use the bottom tool roll for my main emergency supplies (first aid, headlamp, extra batteries, emergency blanket, water purification tabs, and two salmon packs; the small front pocket for my keys, knife and a backup battery for my phone; and the two internal vertical sleeves hold containers of bug spray and/or sunblock upright so there's less chance of leakage. I put some chapstick and hankie in one hipbelt pocket and a small pepper spray in the other, and my sunglasses and some sanitizer wipes in the small top pocket. The hydration compartment holds a 2L platypus soft bottle (barely), which is what I prefer over hydration reservoirs since I don't mind stopping to drink (this also helps me keep an eye on my water usage). There's not much room in the pack after adding those things, but I am still able to stuff an extra pair of socks, a long sleeve layering shirt, and a light rain jacket into the lower main compartment, with just enough room for a sandwich and/or snacks on top. My only real improvements to this pack would involve the front stretch stuff pocket setup and access to the main compartment. I would prefer three separate areas (2 side + 1 front) instead of it all actually being one compartment. I probably wouldn't use the side pockets for water bottles, but they'd be great for stuffing gloves, beanies, beer ;) etc. It would be great if the zipper for the main compartment extended down further to allow better access to things in the bottom of the pack, but considering that I don't use those items (extra clothing) much it's ok. Overall, my best daypack yet…Perhaps one of these days Osprey could make an 18L version and/or upgrade to a full suspended mesh back panel like on the Mira, which would be even better on hot days.

Great size for long days

This pack has great pockets and is super comfortable on me. I have a very short torso and find that it fits perfectly. I can fit all of my needs for mountain bike coaching in it and still have room for a layer or two.

Great for longer day rides or hikes

I got this pack a few weeks ago and am so far loving it. I would say it's a bit large for a short afternoon bike ride but for the longer weekend rides (especially moving into the fall where layering is essential), I anticipate it will be great! I've also taken it for a longer hike and it worked great. This pack was recommended to me by a friend, and I'm so glad. I'm planning to get the smaller one (maybe another one as well) for shorter outings. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because the waist strap is just a little too narrow.

Awesome pack, too tight in the neck

We own two older Raven 14s that have been amazing! Great for a ton of uses and they've held up really well over the years. Was one of the first BPA free hydration bags we could find. Never get chemical taste from the line. Nice big opening. Tried to buy a new one for our daughter and the straps are too tight around the neck. Same for everyone in the family. Ouch! Had to take it back. Please fix Osprey!!

Great bag so far!

I like this bag so far... I do wish it came in a Bright color for visibility, The 2.5L bladder works perfectly fine, as well as held enough water for myself & my 100lb. fur child on 3+ hr. hike. I am not thrilled with the fact that the 2.5L bladder is not equipped with the quick release system the 3L bladder has. I am looking in to if this bag will support a 3L. bladder. The quick release allows you to remove the bladder, without remove the entire tube for refilling. All in all not a deal breaker.

Almost the perfect biking/hiking backpack

Bought this bag about three months ago and use it daily. The osprey raven 14 has an incredible amount of space considering how small the bag is, tons of pockets, and of course included the 2.5 hydration pack. There are a couple things I wish were more efficient about this bag that could make this a 5 star purchase. First, the magnet for the hydration pack is weak. It's come off the magnet multiple times while riding/ hiking that I ended up buying the hydration accessory ""hose magnet"". The magnet for the accessory is noticeably larger than the magnet on the Raven 14 bag. My boyfriends osprey bag didn't come with an included hydration pack so he's the one who introduced me to this accessory and it works really great. Now I never worry about my hose flinging around randomly. Seriously, going over a bump caused my hose to come off the magnet clip (lame). Secondly (and less of a disturbance to me), I wish the clip for the hydration pack was adjustable.

Perfect for mountain biking and shorter hikes

This pack is great. I found myself needing a new pack since my 2L hydration pack couldn't really fit anything in it, and my 30L daypack was overkill for a lot of things. This pack is the perfect size as it can hold a good amount of things but can also be compressed down very small if needed. Another reviewer said that ""the design of the magnetic catch for the tube is designed in such a way that whenever you set the pack down, the bite valve is on the ground."" I don't know why this person isn't clipping the chest strap in place when putting the pack down--problem magically solved. My one comment about design improvement is that the outermost zippered pocket only has access from the left side. This pocket would be much more accessible if the zipper went 180 degrees around that pocket rather than the 75 degrees or so that is currently in place.
