You never really know what the weather's going to do, especially when you're up in the mountains for hours or days at a time. But when you've got the ultralight and ultra-packable protection of the Ortovox Civetta 2.5L Jacket sitting in your pack you won't give storm clouds a second thought. Weighing only six ounces but still offering full waterproof and windproof protection from the storm, this jacket is a no-brainer to bring along on any outdoor adventure, especially given its super-small pack size.
The Civetta can stuff into its own chest pocket to take up barely any space in your pack, and also features a carabiner loops to stay clipped onto a climbing harness in case wet weather rolls in during multi-pitch climbs or mountaineering missions. The fabric itself is made with a durable two-way stretch nylon, which features a waterproof and highly breathable Toray Dermizax NX membrane that will not only keep out the water pouring down from above, but will let your own heat vapor escape to ensure that you won't wind up soaked with sweat anyways.

Had to Return

I was super excited about this jacket and how light weight it is - it is hard (impossible) to find a nice light rain coat that works well in Florida's heat and humidity. Unfortunately I will never know if this jacket would have worked. The sizing was all wrong. Either my item was a defect, or the sizing on the XLs are just way off. The arms were too long, the chest was very loose, but the bottom half was incredibly tight around my belly. It was literally too big in some places and not big enough in other places. I have always worn XL in rain jackets - mostly because of my height. I really hate i had to return it - was very hopeful with this one.

This shell is amazing because it is so lightweight, packable, feels dry against skin when wet, merino inserts on the hood and chin area. I have walked through rain and snow with this shell, does it's job at keeping water out. Breathability could be a little better, overall good though for not having any ventilation zips. A waist draw string and some wrist straps, to get more of a secure fit around the wrist and waist would have been a great addition to this jacket, maybe on the next generation?

Ortovox really makes amazing stuff! Thankfully I was able to get this on sale, and it's just an amazing jacket. I got a large and it weighs roughly 6.4oz. I'm 6 foot with athletic build and this is roomy enough in the arms to layer.. I have had issues with other jackets in that area. This isJust incredible for what you get. It's beautiful because of the engineering I can wear this for both a wind and rain jacket. The Merino cool beads woven into the fabric makes this a remarkable jacket. I've never felt clamy or over heated in it. I love how it can stow up into its own pocket. They even thought to put soft Merino on the inside of the zipper where it might touch your face.. making it very comfy. If I had to ask for anything else on this jacket it would be hand pockets.. but I really can't complain because I've tried half a dozen other jackets for my long distance hikes, and none of them come close to this in functionality, comfort, and durability.
