extending a tents life

I have used solar proof for the last 2 years on my backpacking tent. My little tent was already 7 years old and it was not leaking and I didn't want it to start. My experience has been on a couple hundred nites on the AT & CDT with plenty of rain. Finding the concentrate is great. Now I mix my own in the old 17oz spray bottle. 5 oz of concentrate and then fill w water. Big money saver. I would solar proof my rain fly and the bottom of my tent. It was always adequate on the rain fly and it works on the bottom but it wears off faster there, so i tent sealed the interior floor most recently. I have also used it on my cycling tent which is a hubba hubba and it got old and I have reseam sealed it and I use solarproof every year on the rainfly. So far my tent is waterproof. I can feel the difference on the tent. It feels brand new and slippery again after I'm done. This is an easy product to apply on a damp tent. Just have a dry rag handy to spread it around and make sure there's not pools and drips of it and then you let it dry while the tent is set up.

Garbage for re-waterproofing tent

I have a tent that is ~9 years old and in excellent condition (no tears, no rips, clean inside and out, always put away bone dry and stored in a cool place). Unfortunately, water had started leaking through the rain fly. I'm not talking about through the seams, I'm talking about through the sidewall fabric. I mixed up this concentrated Nikwax Solarproof up according to the directions and have tried applying this to the underside of the fly and outer side of the fly. I have tried applying it to the fly when dry, when wet, by spraying it on, by rubbing it in with my hand... nothing works. In fact, when applying this to the outside of the rain fly, whether by hand or spray, it actually leaks through the fly, resulting in drips on the inside of the fly that I have to wipe down as well. Maybe this would work in extending the life of a good rain fly, I haven't tested that, but in terms of breathing new life into a rainfly that already leaks - don't waste your money - I already wasted mine and am writing this review to save yours.
