A medial post and flexible overlays offer more support than many of New Balance's lightweight minimalist options, while lightweight cushioning and moderate heel offset help you feel light on your toes in technical terrain. Ultra courses are long and the terrain unpredictable, so this shoe incorporates limited-seam construction to reduce blistering and a Vibram sole with bi-directional lugs to help you handle ascents and descents with equal confidence. As a final touch, New Balance's engineers widened the toebox of the 1210 to allow room for foot swell—a common byproduct of high-mileage running and an issue rarely addressed in even the highest-volume trail shoes.
