Why We Like The Mountain Hardwear Phantom Belay Down Parka
Built for bone-chilling temperatures, the Mountain Hardwear Phantom Belay Down Parka provides ultra-warm and packable insulation for our more extreme pursuits, such as ice climbing, winter camping and backpacking, mountaineering, and alpine climbing. That starts with the jacket's responsibly sourced, 800-fill power down and continues with other smart design features, such as an insulated draft tube behind the zipper and 3-D box baffles that prevent cold spots. For added durability and weather protection, the Phantom Belay Down Parka also adds a supplemental layer of synthetic insulation in areas that are more vulnerable to the elements, a durable water repellent finish, and dual-fabric mapping in high wear zones to limit moisture penetration and protect the jacket from straps, harnesses, sticks, and stones. This is bomber protection when we're on belay or trying to stay warm in base camp or our favorite winter campsite.

Don’t wait to buy this parka
I waited too long to buy this parka, using my Phantom jacket instead for several years. Yet the Phantom belay parka kept me so toasty camping on Mt. Rainier as well as belaying in 40+ mph wind gusts while mixed climbing. I love that it goes over my harness easily, and the second zip makes it so my booty stays warm and covered while I still have access to my belay loop. The material is also really hardy—I scraped it against some rough granite walls while climbing up a chimney, and no holes or anything. I usually wear a small but bought medium so I can fit it over a fully loaded harness and other layers.

I bought this coat after doing a lot of research for the best women's belay parka and I am not disappointed! I use this jacket for everything, from wearing around town on the -30 degree days in Montana to using it during the evenings on my grand canyon raft trip. My favorite part is that it has a baffle around the back of the neck instead to help keep a cold breeze from going down your back when you're not wearing the hood. This jacket is so warm and cozy and can withstand being put to the test during your favorite outdoor activities.
