Loud
- Familiarity:
- I returned this product before using it
Seems warm and well made but it has a layer of material that is crinkly and loud. I don't think I could stand to be in the hood for more than 2 minutes.

Love this jacket!
This is truly an excellent jacket! Best down jacket I've owned. Have not experienced any issues with the zipper as some reviews have stated. Would absolutely buy again and probably will.

Awesome Jacket!!!
Just got this jacket after returning The North Face Himalayan Down Jacket because it was to puffy and had no side pockets. The minute I tried The Nilas Jacket on I knew it was infinitely better. The fit was better, it looks good, side pockets where they should be, and very cleary the warmest Jacket I have owned. I bought last year's model at half the cost, so you just can't beat the price. But most importantly, based on the only negative reviews I've seen, the zipper is not an issue AT ALL. I sincerely don't know what anyone is talking about, I specifically tried the zipper 30 times right away because of the reviews, zero issues at all. No snagging, no sticking, no problem getting it zipped or unzipped. I never, never write reviews but felt I had to for the jacket quality and to address the zipper. It's possible they replaced the zipper since the reviews, but I don't thinks so, still the gray YKK, and it works just fine. This is the best winter jacket I have owned, and the large fits my 6' 3" 195 lb frame perfectly.

Great Jacket
An awesome design at a reasonable price. I've used this coat for belaying on cold ice climbs in Colorado, as well as summit days in the Cascades and on Denali. The Nilas is very warm with great loft while remaining light weight. Keep in mind that the jacket runs big, but if you're planning on layering this is a non issue.

good size choose, feels just right
haven't tested on the outdoors, I normally use size L for jackets for layering with an M size was perfect for layering, I can have a polar, down jacket and a soft shell bellow the parka but it feels short and would love some more room and more movement freedom, the main zip is a little problematic

Insane loft, yet light and compressible.
This thing has insane loft, yet is very light and compressible. Warmth to weight ratio is rediculious. Zippers were reported as being poor, and they're not fantastic, but not as bad as they could be. I don't care though, I'd buy it again. I was a L on the size chart (5'11" 175lbs, athletic build with size 30 pants and a 44" chest) but got an M. It's perfect. Fits nicely over just a base layer but also sufficiently over mid + shell as a belay parka. Planning to use for mountaineering here in the PNW (Hood, Baker, Rainier, Adams, etc...)

Good Jacket
The jacket does fit large. I am 5′ 7/170cm, 154lb/70kg with 40 inches chest. usually in between S and M but for Nilas S fits me perfectly (Layer1: T shirt L2: long sleeve, Layer3: proton LT synthetic insulation, Layer 4: beta AR shell, Layer 5: Nilas). The zippers are extremely hard to use but are actually from YKK and looks decently weather resistant... I once spent 2 minutes straight with no gloves on and still couldn't even zip the main zipper up. Got this jacket at 50% off so I can live with an inconvenient set of zippers. Warm is very subjective but I will say that this jacket has a very good loft and good compressibility and the cut is good for layering without compressing the cloth you have underneath it. One issue mentioned in other reviews is that the shoulder part is not as loft since your shoulder is directly compressing the down. Also there is one line between the hood and the body that is completely sewn through. Both of these are true but I dont feel it after layering properly.

High quality, runs a little big and awful zipper
Selected this jacket for winter walks on days when it too warm for my North Face 800 fill Himalayan parka. First Mountain Hardwear down jacket that I have bought. I am impressed with the quality, the down fill is ample and the stitching top notch. I do think gussets in the armpit would help but my Medium Size jacket is a little too big for me so arm movement is not a problem. The exterior pockets are deep, no need to worry about objects falling out. Wind protection and warmth in 20 degree weather is excellent and the hood is ample and warm. The worst feature of this otherwise excellent jacket is the zipper. It is a cheap plastic that defies zipping at times. Part of this is that there is no flap between the zip and the material, the material bunches obstructing the zip. This should be an easy fix but is very annoying when trying to zip up with gloves on. Should have been a 5 Star but gets 4 owing to the inadequate zipper.
