Synthetic insulation used to be synonymous with heavy and bulky; not so with the Mountain Hardwear Lamina Sleeping Bag. We like how this bag keeps us warm and comfortable deep in the wilderness without making the journey feel like the slog.

Great bag!
Great bag for the price, can’t go wrong. We now own two of these bags

Gets the job done
The sleeping bag was warm enough in 32°F weather. The problem is that it is nearly impossible to get into its compression bag. The recycled material that is used for insulation does not compact well. The bag is bulky and a bit lumpy. The cost for this bag is less than half of what a down bag cost. I have two down bags, and they are by far worth the money.

Purchased in time for an October trip to the BWCA. Weather was windy and wet, temps were hitting 32 F at night and I was cozy enough! Even with a non insulated inflatable sleeping pad. Went to sleep with thick socks, base layers, sweater, and puff jacket. Sometimes an extra layer just to warm up at first which was likely shed after waking from being too hot! I’m thin and easily chilled - it’s typically hard for me to warm up so I put a lot of faith in this bag. I know it’s rated for far colder but not sure I'm cut out to test that. My other bag of a different brand is rated to 32 F and I know I would have froze in it. This was a great step up for early spring and fall camping. This is my first serious mummy style bag and so it was a bit claustrophobic. Something I need to get used to. I love the plush feeling of the bag, there’s a lot of coziness in the head and neck. The color is lovely and warm. Appreciate that it comes with a large storage bag for when I’m not using it. Pretty excited to get out with this bag again:)

Okay but didn't quite work as well as expected
The zipper on mine was somewhat broken so it was extremely cold at night camping in near freezing temperature.

Great Price on a Synthetic Bag for Cold, Wet Conditions
This bag is specifically made for people mostly camping, but backpacking and willing to carry extra weight, in conditions that hover around freezing, could get down close to zero, and in wet, humid conditions. Think: Olympic National Park in Spring, British Columbia, SE Alaska, etc. when the weather is certain to be constantly damp. Unlike down, even in the most wet conditions, this bag will keep working, and dries out quick when it does get wet. Most people backpacking, often camping, in very cold, wet conditions are apt to take a down bag, one that is treated, or has strong weatherproofing (such as the MH Bishop Pass, or Phantom series with GoreTex). But those bags come at a cost several times more expensive than this bag. So if you're on a budget, this bag may punch your ticket. It's a bit on the heavy side, but not terribly so for a 0 degree synthetic bag. Draft collars make this bag easier to really tuck yourself in if it's bitter cold. The bag also comes with both a storage bag, and a compression sack, which is very handy.

Toasty warm
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
#BackcountryGearhead I used this for a snowy, absolutely freezing single digit weekend down in the desert and for once I didn't wake up chilled to the bone. I didn't even need to do the heated water bottle trick. The sleeping bag is heavy so this is not backpacker friendly, but absolutely perfect for car camping. Because it's synthetic I didn't have to worry about the down puffing out properly after pulling it out of the stuff sack, and the condensation in the tent in the morning wasn't a concern. The padding around the head/neck area is so effective at trapping heat and keeping your warm, and the hood was almost a pillow on its own. There is also plenty of room to move and sleep on your side. I'd be happy to use this again.

Synthetic bag for damp cold
Good synthetic bag for cold conditions which may be damp. Avoids the problem that Down has with clumping.
