Why We Like The Aspect 3 Tent

The Mountain Hardwear Aspect 3 Tent is surprisingly robust for how little it weighs, and even more surprisingly compact compared to most 3-person tents. The Sil nylon fly offers reliable, 3-season protection from wet weather, while the 3/4 mesh canopy maximizes airflow for warmer weather. There are two full-size doors and vestibules large enough for three backpacks. DAC Featherlight poles provide a sturdy setup without weighing you down on the trail, and one of the poles is pre-bent to give better headspace. Guyout points with included guylines and stakes keep sturdy in windy weather. Four internal pockets organize all the small things for a cleaner living space.

Can't wait to use it...but not with six feet of snow on the ground.

It's a Christmas gift, so we haven't slept in it. But we set it up in our living room. Really easy to set up. Incredibly light. Great design.

Not water proof at all

I bought 3 tents for my guests because I run a small trekking company in Peru, but we had a really bad experience with these products because our gear inside the tents got wet.

I bought this exact model 4 years ago. I am a wildland fire fighter, so I need a lightweight but durable tent. I bought this tent knowing I'd be living in it for 14-21 days at a time. I used Camp Dry (blue bottle) and seam sealer on the rain fly, floor and footprint for added protection. This tent held up against all sorts of weather from 112 degree days in Arizona to 28 degree nights in Oregon, it served me well until it finally wore out. It is incredibly easy to set up and very roomy. It fits my gear, myself and my cot. This tent held up to 40 mph outflow boundaries, heavy rain and even light snow. I was a bit skeptical at first, due to the thin fabric and light poles, but the thinness added flexibility so it withstood the winds better than stiffer, heavier tents. My only negative comment is that you have to be careful about the loops on top of the tent as they sometimes come off the hooks and I have to rehook them. I was so pleased with this model that I immediately ordered the exact same tent to replace my old one. Great little tent!!

Epic adventures await with this tent!

Easy to set up, even on first attempt didn't take more than a few minutes (alone) - it's intuitive, nothing to overthink about (like matching colours, trying to guess the side or whatever). The pole hooks for inner tent cords are an amazing innovation - I did treat them carefully after reading some negative reviews, but they don't look like snapping anytime soon. Very roomy inside, thanks to slightly pre-bent poles. It's a proper hotel for 2 and child/dog/gear, or a cozy place for 3. All in all - that's probably the best tent I've ever had at a fraction of the weight (1.8kg full set!!!). And the only thing it's missing (considering the price point) is a footprint, which is not that easy to find even to buy separately online.

Fair weather tent only

Yes its light weight but it fails in a few departments I bought this tent to replace my Nothface stormbreaker for sheep hunting, it's lighter and saves room in your backpack but as I found out it has very little integral strength to it, when the wind picked up at night the tent was flattened to our faces, the poles were chattering like it was about to break apart. The fly seemed fairly water proof but the amount of condensation that formed inside during a rain was ridiculous, It basically rain inside as well. The tie downs from the fly to the base tent are just very thin pieces of para cord , not your usual tent pole clips or holes, when the wind picked up it would pop these off. It does not come with a base, you will need it unless your pitching this tent on a grassy field of some sort, the tent material is vey thin. If you want a fair weather, summer camping tent that you can use at a music festival then this is for you. Pretty disappointed in this tent as usually Mountain Hardware makes pretty decent gear.

Not rainproof

I wanted to love this tent. Easy set up, lightweight, nice and big for 2 people and a big dog, plus our packs. Second night on a backpacking trip the rain hit for 12 hours, the tent fly started seeping water in from the top after just an hour or 2, the poles condensed water and dripped so much water onto the mesh that eventually it started raining water on all of our gear. The water seeped down the mesh walls and into the tent where the mesh ended, causing puddles to form and getting our gear wet. It was not a great experience, we returned it the day we got back from the trip.

Fantastic lightweight tent for backpacking

Awesome tent. Super light. We can't believe how much lighter this is than our last 3-person tent.

Be aware you have to seam the seals yourself

I bought this tent awhile back and didn't realize it wasn't seam sealed at any critical point. I found this out while backpacking in the CO wilderness when it rained periodically. Other than that, the tent is spacious enough for my wife, dogs, and me. I would have returned it, but my dog punctured the floor. Not sure why Mountain Hardwear can't get this right at the factory for ease of the consumer. Lame.

Favorite Tent I've owned so far

I've had this tent for maybe two years now. I love it. Very light for the size, easy to set up, spacious for 2, thoughtful and useful design, and I even enjoy the colors. It vents well, even when raining. I've mainly used it in the Rockies and Utah desert. Only complaint is it can be difficult to clean after a couple weeks in the desert, specifically the fly. This is probably more due to the desert, not the tent, but like I said, my only complaint. The fly is incredibly lightweight, so I'd say the tradeoff is worth it. I would absolutely purchase this tent again.
