Why We Like the Merrell Speed Eco Waterproof Hiking Shoe
Within the Merrell line, the Speed Eco stands out as the brand's lightest and most eco-friendly hiking shoe. The Speed is a light hiker made for fast hikes on well-maintained trails, and this waterproof version features Merrell's proprietary waterproof membrane to seal out rain and splashes when we're out in wet conditions. The "Eco" refers to all the recycled materials in this eco-friendly shoe, such as recycled materials in the uppers, midsoles, and outsoles as well as laces, webbing, lining, and footbed covers that are 100% recycled. In other words, the Speed is lighter on our feet and lighter on the planet than the average hiking shoe.

Camino de Santiago - worthy!
Normal shoe size 5.5; sized up 1/2 to an 6 to avoid toes-jamming on varied terrain. Good traction; good arch support; waterproof. Just finished a Camino de Santiago and this was one of two pairs I wore - they were great!

Even more comfortable
I had to buy a new pair of Merrill’s after my last pair I’ve had for 15 years started to look rough. Bought them online and went for a hike the day they arrived. So comfortable and CUTE!

Trek in Finland
I got the shoes for a trek in Finland. They were sure to please. Good on the terrain and a good all around comfortable , casual shoe as well.

Hiking, travel, and beyond!
Love them! Super comfy, great on the trail, and waterproof. Like that I can wear them as "sneakers" too when traveling. Lots of my trips involve hiking, so one pair instead of two!

Comfortable and sturdy, but wide
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
- Size Bought:
- 7
I bought a 7, my normal size, but the shoe was too long and far too wide. I ended up buying them in a 6.5, which are still quite wide, and adding inserts. They worked well on their first hike.

Almost there.
Well made, nice design, but not that comfortable in cushion. Hoping for more support like the Agility shoe I previously purchased. The sides of the shoe seem cut back in fabric so the tongue of the shoe pops up and poorly met. I have a narrow foot. My heal slips even though the shoes fits. No one carries 10.5 to pre-try so I have to order them. Next time I'll return. See photo.
