If you're intrigued by the concept of barefoot running but are concerned about what a change it represents from your current habits and equipment, the Merrell Women's Bare Access Arc Running Shoe is the ideal solution. Like other barefoot shoes, the Bare Access Arc shoe features a zero heel drop (your heel and toe are the same distance from the ground) to enable you to start working on your barefoot form. The difference is the 8mm of cushioning in the outsole, or 'connection with cushion' as Merrell calls it, that still offers some of the cushioning that you're used to. You can develop a feel for the road, build up leg strength, and get used to the midfoot-strike style of running without some of the pain that happens with a sudden switch.
