Why We Like The Mammut Sertig II Low GTX Shoe

A technical shoe for our outdoor lifestyle, the Mammut Sertig II Low GTX Shoe lets us enjoy athletic performance everyday. This shoe feels cushy underfoot with its high stack height of soft EVA foam, and it uses the new GORE-TEX Invisible Fit for waterproof protection without a bulky bootie inside our shoe. We like this lightweight shoe for casual use, urban trails, and fast hikes without a pack on our back.

They’re alright

Wore them one time and the front of the shoe got distorted on top.

Great shoe

Durable low rise hiking shoe w/ great traction. I'm in a wet area, so a low rise is not always my go-to shoe for hiking, but it's great on nice days. I always enjoy an understated black shoe. Everything worked, nothing failed, great for any skill level, beginner to expert. Would buy again.

CONS-NOT waterproof - Glue not holding all of the parts together. PROS : Durable upper, Durable sole, great lace engineering. Subjective - Looks Decently good and Very comfortable. Bottom line - The shoe is not waterproof and has some glue issues but is very tough, even against brutal terrain. MY fit was very good and it looks fairly good. laces stay tied :) I really wanted to love this shoe. :( Let's start with the worst. The waterproofing is a fail. It took a while to figure this out, but both shoes are letting in water. It is NOT wicking or water coming in over the top of the waterproofing. I have, at this point taken the shoes on two, relatively short but difficult sub-alpine to alpine hikes. In both cases rain and water coming off vegetation made its way into the inside of the shoes. I had wet feet for miles. This was despite the use of gaiters and at one point waterproof pants. To figure how this was happening, when back home I used the sink and a tub of water. At first, I suspected water was getting onto the tongue of the shoe then getting over the waterproof layer. i.e. going over the top of the waterproofing. This was NOT the case. Submerging the shoe in water but keeping the water from going onto the tongue resulted is a soaking wet shoe interior. I am not sure where the failure is but it is in BOTH shoes. Since these are "waterproof" shoes I would give them a 0 star review but they perform well, otherwise and I hope Mammut fixes the engineering or construction issue(s). (see pictures) If you are depending on keeping water out of your shoes these are a complete failure. Stay away. Second CON - the rubber at the toe (tip) of each shoes is already separating. Granted they were used on a terrifically challenging terrain with ultra hard and sharp rocks. With my pack they had about 230 lbs on them. I can try super glue but so early on in the life of a shoe this is a bummer. Given how vicious the rocks were, the slight separation of the rubber from the toe could be called a victory. PROS - Durability. Assuming the water issue is not due to wear,(some sort of hole punched by mother nature) they are holding up very well. The rocks these shoes had to deal with were super abrasive. I am impressed with how well the soles as well and the upper (sides) of the shoes resisted being torn to shreds. There is some wear on the side where rocks were grinding against them but there are no holes or tears. The waterproof membrane beneath, appears to be untouched. Great job. The sole took the abuse really well also. (see photos). PRO - The laces have incorporated some of the new lace engineering magic I am noticing in higher end shoes and they stay tied way better then laces of old. I'm not sure what engineering magic is going on here but keep it up. SUBJECTIVE - Everyone's feet are different. But these are pretty comfortable and the fit is such at there is little to no relative movement of my foot in the shoe. I have room to splay out my toes at the same time. I have a relatively low volume foot. Looks - This is semi-subjective because my sense fashion is perfect. They look fairly decent. Thank you for not making your shoes look like they were colored with a highlighter. I am a red-blooded American patriot and like my shoes to look the part of a rugged outdoorsman. Ding for feeling the need to have the brand plastered in giant letters on the side of the shoes. Not my style. I am guessing they this this will sell shoes. How about putting the Mammoth icon instead. It looks cool and is still branding. Another suggestion Mammut - goes with a medium grey (or medium tone neutral) over black. It just looks better and does not show dirt as much.

Amazing Shoes!

They fit perfectly: snug heel, good arch support, great cushion under foot (without feeling spongy), incredible grip!
