Nordwand Advanced HS Hooded Shell Jacket - Women's

A great hard shell for climbing and ugly weather.

A year into owning this and last years omments below Still apply well. Water beads up, runs off. Bulletproof in blizzards and pockets super handy with a harness on while in a rope team. Hood handles the helmet fine. In real life, I almost always have a ballcap clone to control the front gutter. I have a women's XL and men's XL based upon what I use for base and insulation layers. So, for advice, I would say use something with a stiff bill if you are constantly looking up and down and do not want a moment's interference if the hood interferes with your field of vision.

Great jacket. The hood takes a bit of work to adjust to get it where you want. I was able to get it there and it worked well after some trial and error. Blocked the wind and snow really well so I think it is totally worth hassling with the hood a little.

Bad hood

I like the jacket but the hood does not make any sense even with a helmet on. Too much fabric and the draw strings for the pull cords are at the wrong place all together. The hood just falls into your face and it is really shitty design, period. Otherwise, the location of the pockets and removable skirt is awesome. I was worried about shaving and weak points but good so far.

This is a fantastic shell. Breathable, waterproof, has never let me down. I quite like the narrow waist because when you order a jacket in size small, they usually come with enough room for you to be 5 months preggers and have a beer gut, so this is actually really well-fitting if you're actually an athletic body type. Note that there isn't any stretch or give in the shoulders and across the back, so this isn't the best jacket to climb ice in. Having the armpit/back flex patches like the men's nordwand flex does would be ideal, and I'd love to buy that jacket once it becomes available for women.

Versatile Jacket

This is a great jacket! GoreTEX Pro is an a amazing technology that keeps you dry and also breathes at the same time. I've gone hiking and biking in the rain in it and I never felt sweaty in it. It breathes so well! I don't really like how narrow it is on the waist: I understand that it's a female fit but I think it's narrowed too much. Also, it took me two months to figure out that the hanging loop is located on the outside, under the hood.
