One and Done Ultralight Hardshell for any situation
I have used the Mammut Masao Light HS for everything from ski touring, backpacking, commuting, and trekking over 100 miles in Nepal in winter. With pit zips and a three layer construction, this hard-shell is the perfect companion on trail or at the airport. It packs down to the size of a grapefruit and weighs under 10oz. It breathes very well and the added pit zips make it a put-on-leave-on shell for cold, windy weather. It disappears in my pack and was a nice thing to have to throw over my lap on the plane and at 5000m in Nepal. I usually wear a medium in most garments, however, I sized up to a large in the Masao Light HS as it has a trim cut. Sizing up allows for excellent layering without being too baggy. For reference, I am 5'7" with a 40" chest and 32" waist. Large fits well for layering, medium fits but is a very trim fit only allowing a light fleece underneath. The hem cinch draw cords secure everything nicely, especially when layering. I really enjoy the elasticized cuffs which eliminate the need for added hook and loop adjusters. The cuffs do catch on my watch but that is inherent with this type of cuff. I prefer it to adjustable cuffs. They are easy to slide over other layers underneath. This jacket layers very well and allows for a parka to easily layer over it. As with all ultralight garments, durability is not it's strongest metric, however, it has held up very nicely over the pat two years I have owned it. This is a fantastic piece and I cannot recommend it enough. Best in class.

Great lightweight hardshell
I'm pretty blown away by this layer. I've been rocking the Arcteryx Alpha and Beta for years for rain, but was looking for something lighter weight. Overall, I'd say if you're being active and heating up this is one of the greatest hardshell layers out there. I absolutely have to echo the comments on the zippers. I processed those comments on the zippers and decided I didn't care that much if all the other features line up. The jacket is great and the zippers are awful, but it is worth it.

This is a RAIN JACKET not a hard shell, i ordered it thinking it was a hard shell and sent it right back after feeling the light rain shell. Didnt test or use it, but this is not a hard shell. Especially not for mountaineering.

Good for mild weather
This is a fantastic jacket for rather mild conditions. It is extremely light weight and easy to pack away and use as needed. I did go on a 10 hour hike where we were rained on for 9 hours and this did not manage that too well but I knew that it was probably not the best going in and decided to trade weight for wet. To be fair, it was a lot of rain. I am 6'3 and about 200 lbs and the large fits very tight to my body but comfortable with long enough in the torso and sleeves. It is great to break the wind as well. The thin nature of the jacket means it could rip easily and I have been nervous a few times when getting snagged on branches but that is the risk to get such a light weight jacket. Overall, I am really happy with this.

Great jacket and light weight
I have used the jacket on a few hikes during rainy conditions and it has done a great job. The only thing that is slightly strange is the mesh netting on the inner of the hood - which I think it supposes to grip your head or helmet. I haven't tested it climbing yet.

I have one in last season's color. Nice fit and look. Certainly not waterproof. I live in North Carolina, USA where we have ever-increasing amounts of intermittent, unseasonal heavy rain and it does not stand a chance even after a week of regular use. I bought it on sale at $180ish. I would not even consider it worth half that much. I do use it when i go running in the rain. A little bulkier than perhaps a traditional lightweight running rain jacket but does the job.

great fit, waterproof and rugged. Great hood fit, even with helmet on.
