more shovel, less weight
Replaced an old avi shovel with this. Much larger blade and better ergonomics. Only used for snow survey holes and drills so far, hopefully I'll never need it for a real avalanche.

Excellent light durable shower. Stands up to serious punishment.

Workhorse
I had borrowed and rented this shovel multiple times before choosing it as my personal equipment. The thing is a bit of a beast in terms of weight when compared to other shovels you can buy. However, if you are willing to take some extra weight this thing is extremely stout and stands up to extreme abuse. During an avalanche skills course I was able to chop through old avalanche debris and rain crust without worrying about the shovel breaking, which is a real worry for ultralight models. Happy also to have the hoe mode and D shaped handle, both of which are proven to increase efficiency and durability.

Good shovel but I contacted mammut asking if it would fit in the nirvana 30 pack. They assured me it would. The shovel shaft cannot fit in the pack's avi pocket so I'll have to get a different shovel. Kinda disappointing

Amazing design with only one negative
While doing an evacuation at approximately 4ft under a heavy wet snow the shovel deployed quickly and switched modes great. The blade did amazing chopping through icy sections and a successful rescue. The only downside is the finish on the blade allows snow to stick adding a few seconds to overall rescue times. A glossy finish would put the shovel at a solid 10.

The pins haven't froze when using shovel. It's the best one to use on snowmobile tunnel

Sturdy but a little heavy
I dug out my partners backpack within seven minutes, it surely does the job but is not the light weight option out there

Great AVY Shovel!
This is the sturdiest avalanche shovel I have ever used. The scoop is also very large. This, along with the "hoe" ability, makes this shovel my go-to whenever out in the backcountry. It is not the lightest shovel but that is the price you pay for it being such good quality. This is by no means a heavy shovel either, just heavier then some ultra-light, more flimsier shovels.

Solid shovel, a bit heavy. Hoe Mode is quite good for moving snow around quickly.
