Reliable protection and comfortable landings with the Mad Pad Crash Pad

What Our Gearhead® Experts Are Saying:

"This pad is bomber for everyday bouldering sessions. It’s thick, easy to carry, and the backpack straps make approaches way more comfortable. Plus, I love that it can turn into a couch at camp after a long day of climbing."

The Mad Rock Mad Pad Crash Pad delivers trusted cushioning and durability for serious bouldering sessions. Designed with a plush landing zone and a robust outer shell, it gives us confidence when committing to the send—even over less-than-perfect landings.

The taco-style fold eliminates gaps and provides solid coverage under sketchy topouts or traverses. The padded backpack straps and waistbelt make hauling easier, and the Velcro straps let us link multiple pads for expanded landing zones. Whether we’re stacking up for a highball or lounging at basecamp, the Mad Pad has our back.

Fine

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

Fine pad. It is cheap. I have this and the duo for my home gym. Get the duo it is the same price per square foot of landing zone and the duo is a more useful size with more features for carrying gear and better straps. This pad is not firm. Lots of reviews say it is, mine is not. I am 140 lbs and I am using this in a garage climbing gym. It is good for that application. The hinge and the edges of this pad feel pretty soft due to the loose fitting cover and the fact that the foam is not bonded together. I might take it apart and glue the different layers together. I have a metolius magnum that is a firm pad. The metolious is much better quality. It has a tighter fitting cover and the foam is stiffer. Get this pad if you want the cheapest pad available, it is fine. It works. Get the duo it is a better value. Get a different brand if you want a stiff firm landing surface.

Great crash pad

Its great, its decently thick when unfolded. Easy to carry around. I also use it as a chair of sorts when I am not using it outdoors.

First Boulder Pad

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I bought two of these for my home climbing wall and to boulder outside (normally sport climb but occasionally boulder). This has been an EXCELLENT pad. It has taken months of abuse and holds its form well. We also use it as a sleeping mat in our tent at night (and actually use the lounge chair option) when car camping. I absolutely love this and will be buying two more of these for extra protection at the home gym. Great product and fun colors!
