Targhee Vent Mid Hiking Boot

Here to welcome warm-weather outings, the Keen Men's Targhee Vent Mid Hiking Boot wraps your foot in insanely breathable, cool comfort to get you excited to venture out on the trail when temps are heating up for the summer. Keen carried over the fit, stability, and grip of the award-winning Targhee hiking boot and retooled the upper with mesh panels for (you guessed it) ventilation.

Pairing with the mesh panels, oiled nubuck leather finishes the upper for water-resistant protection against light rain or puddles. Then, an injected TPU heel-capture system stabilizes your heel as you traverse loose, rocky terrain, while an ESS shank bolsters support without the added bulky weight. Dual-density EVA in the midsole and footbed help your feet stay fresh over miles of rock-strewn trails, and CleanSport NXT odor-control throughout keeps the theme of freshness going by fighting off nasty odors that usually come along with all-day hikes. The durable All-Terrain rubber outsole boasts 4mm multi-directional lugs for traction on some of the muddier, less predictable terrain you'll encounter out there.

Very Reliable Shoes

I'm a mail carrier in Utah. Keen boots by far are the sturdiest, most comfortable boots I have used in my career. They definitely take a little of life's burden off my shoulders. Thank you.

Perfect mud height boot

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Took these out of the box on a 28 mile 3 night back pack in the wind rivers. They are lightweight and supportive. No blisters or foot pain!

Not bad, not great

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I wish they had a bit more arch support. Even with Keen High Arch Insoles, they're a bit flat. I wear these to play disc golf. They do the trick

Tried and True Hiking Boot

I have been buying the same Targhee Vent Mid hiking boot approximately once a year when I wear them out for the past 15 years. It meets my comfort, rugged and water resistant needs for my daily work boot on muddy construction sites, walking up and down steep slope mountain terrain and through the woods, hiking, camping and hanging out in Asheville.

Overall good with some issues

I've always preferred Keens over other brands mainly due due to how wide the toe box is and how comfy, flexible, and grippy they are. I hike alot for work (mostly off trail) and love that I can actually feel the ground beneath me in Keens versus brands like Lowas or Solomans (helps out alot with navigating really steep off areas or while bouldering in drainages with slick rocks and makes me feel alot more certain of my foot placement in precarious terrain, although I'm sure this feature probably wouldn't be appreciated by everyone espescially if you like a thicker, stiffer sole). The thing I don't love is how fast they wear down. It might be the fact that I'm in Southern AZ where the ground tends to be pretty hard and abrasive and the majority of the plants are spiky, but I end up needing a new pair every 6-8 months and that's even with me trying to repair them and wearing them way beyond when i probably should. Specific to this boot, wherein I havent had this issue with other styles, I also didn't like how low the laces sit against the tounge and it made it so that within a few steps the tounge would be sticking really far out. It sucked because not only was my ankle not secure but by the end of the day I'm having to pour out a bunch of sticks, dirt, and leaves that have collected in between the tounge and my foot and wiggled their way down to the inner part. It's uncomfortable to have all these things poking at me during the day unless I stop midhike to unlace my boots and empty everything out. I tried so many different lacing techniques to fix the issue but that didnt work so I ended up having to sew another lace-holding loop higher up on the sides of the tounge so the boot would actually stay closed and secured during the day. The boots in the photo show the wear after 7 months. Biggest issues are worn down and torn/broken off pieces of tread/rubber, broken stitches on the outer edges of the boot, and broken stitching on the top part of the toe box.

Where’s the Keen?

I’ve owned two pairs of Keens, Austins. They’ve been good shoes. I’ve really appreciated the extra room for my forefoot. When I saw the discounted price, I thought I’d try the boots. Now I know why they’re discounted.

Great hiking boot

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Flexible , but supportive. I Have very flat feet with splayed toes . These boots have a decent size toes box to accommodate ( I went up one size ).

Like with all my other Keen boots these fit perfectly and comfortable all day. Got half my shop wearing them too. They are great and for the discounted price, so worth the money!
