Origin R Complete Mountain Bike - 2015

The 2015 Juliana Origin R Complete Mountain Bike was built for women who can’t wait to hit the trails. A durable single pivot frame ensures that you’ll spend more time riding, and less time maintaining your steed, and the same can be said of its components, which were chosen for a blend of reliability and lightweight. And since it was designed by Juliana Furtado and her team of ripping ladies, you know that it offers all the benefits of a modern bike, with a little feminine flair to set it apart from the crowd.

Strength is important, but with the demands of today’s riders, it simply can’t come at the expense of unnecessary weight. But due to the hydroformed aluminum tubing, the Origin strikes an ideal balance of the aforementioned factors. In achieving this balance, stiffness is paramount, which is why you'll find that the rear triangle has an asymmetric shape and a rear thru-axle. This ensures that suspension motion is directed to the rear shock and not into flexing the frame.

You may be aware that Juliana is a branch of Santa Cruz Bicycles, which is why the Origin relies on the proven suspension pivot location also found on Santa Cruz’s famed Superlight. The pivot is placed slightly above and forward of the middle chainring to offer 100mm of highly responsive travel. One drawback of single pivot designs has always been out-of-the-saddle sprinting, because the suspension will compress under rider loads, thereby sacrificing pedaling efficiency. Thankfully, shock technology has mitigated that drawback. The FOX FLOAT CTD rear shock found on the Origin has three distinct damping settings, which are adjustable on-the-fly from wide-open and plush to firm and efficient.

The Origin’s R build starts off with a RockShox Recon Gold TK fork, which is nicely balanced by the Evolution series FOX FLOAT CTD rear shock. The drivetrain consists of Shimano components, with SLX and Deore doing most of the heavy lifting, and a clutch-equipped Shadow+ XT rear derailleur keeping things quiet. Shimano Deore brakes keep you in control on the descents. For the cockpit, Juliana supplies the custom handlebar, grips, and saddle — each of which is designed to complement a woman’s body. A Race Face stem and Thomson seatpost keep the controls in check. The Origin R rolls on a hand-built 27.5-inch wheelset that consists of SRAM hubs laced to WTB i19 tubeless-ready rims, and they’re wrapped in Maxxis Ikon tubeless tires.
