Why We Like The Joolca GottaGo Toilet

When the defecation hits the oscillation, we turn to the GottaGo Toilet for a chemical toilet that literally can take a lot of crap—and pee—before we need to empty it. Unlike most portable toilets, the GottaGo system separates solids from liquids, which lets us go longer in between emptying and prevents that nasty sewage smell that plagues plenty of outhouses and port-a-potties. The unique storage containers and cassettes have the capacity for approximately 12-23 uses, and they allow for sealed waste removal that minimizes nasty sights, smells, and spills. With a comfortable seat and convenient height, this portable toilet is heaps more comfortable than squatting against a tree or dropping a deuce in a lined bucket, only to walk away with bucket grooves around our butt for the next hour. We can use the versatile GottaGo as a chemical toilet, a bag toilet, or a composting toilet, giving us plenty of options for our road trips, paddle trips, and weekends at our cabin, camper van, or camp site.

Best of both worlds

I’ve had my Gottago toilet for about a year now. Before that I had a Thedford cassette toilet which is basically a mini outhouse. First there is no smell. Separating #1 from #2 makes a big difference. Second Unlike a cassette toilet I don’t have to see my poop again. This design is a simplified version of the Laveo toilet without the expensive and storage consuming inserts. I just put a compostable 8 gal liner in the box and when it’s full I unlock the lid, twist the liner, tie it in a knot and throw it in the trash. I even put my dog’s poop bags in there. Best toilet design for the money (without the “overland tax”).

Gotta Go toilet, composting toilet

We have used our Gotta Go toilet and find it much better than our other portable chemical toilet. It doesn't smell. It is easy to empty the light-weight container containing the urine. It has a handle to carry the container and a screw cap to hold the liquid. We had to buy a large funnel as urine would go into the solids section of the toilet. You could make the divider of the urine and solids higher perhaps or provide a funnel.

Just an update

I wrote an earlier review but now that I've used it, I need to tell you how the "Go Went". I bought the composting cassette and the first thing I did was buy Coconut Coir. I have another brand of composting toilet for my boat and from experience this medium works best. Here's few tips to get the best results. Add water to the coco coir brick in a container, use just enough water to break it apart and the medium is damp but not wet. Take a trash or wag bag and line the solid waste tank and place a few scoops medium to line the bottom. Then after you Go, cover the toilet paper and poo with a couple scoops of the damp coco coir medium and close the tank. I had great results after 7 days of use. In fact, I forgot to empty the waste tank and two weeks later, there was no smell and the coco coir dissolved most of the poo and TP. I wouldn't recommend forgetting it and always empty the urine tank promptly, as I did. I learned from experience with my other composting toilet, urine will always be worse if not disposed of right away... Or if it mixes with the solid side. Kudos to Joolca for designing a urine separator that actually works. PS... There are new laws in States that don't recognize composting toilets as MSDs, so if cruising through one of these states you might want to buy a chemical tank, too.

For those curious about the actual height of the GottaGo

I took some pics with it next to our residentail toilet. I will admit when I first saw the box, I thought it was really short. But it turns out it's almost the same height, only slightly lower. It's also very sturdy and comfortable. I'm 6'-2" and 260 lbs and found it quite comfortable to sit on. Joolca really did their homework with this design. I was ready to buy another brand and glad I discovered the Gotta Go when I did. 👍

Best solution for your waste

Just spent a week boondocking in the High Sierras in the middle of winter and used my GottaGo toilet exclusively. Let's be real, there is no solution that compares to flushing your toilet at home. I originally used a Thedford cassette toilet and really hated emptying it. The GottaGo toilet solves all that. The design works, separating #1 from #2 makes emptying both containers more "palatable". At least you don't have to see the #2 again. Just twist and knot the bag then throw it in the trash and you're done. Best part is it doesn't smell like my cassette toilet used to. Closest thing to my bathroom at home.

Worked good for the people on U-Tube.

Saw your toilet on U-Tube, It had been given great reviews. I like the separation feature. I'm getting one today.

Best Joolca product yet

Great toilet, perfect size and form factor. Lightyears ahead of the competition. Avoid Mexican night if you are planning to use this, possibly could be a problem.
