Why We Like The Icebreaker ZoneKnit Insulated Hoodie
When we plan on going hard in freezing conditions, we bust out our Icebreaker Zoneknit Insulated Hoodie to keep us warm—but not too warm. Winter warriors know that Merino wool makes the best baselayer for high-output activities because it naturally resists odor, wicks moisture, and dries quickly, preventing the winter sweat that cools off and drags down our core temperatures. The ZoneKnit construction then dials up extra insulation where it's most needed—the chest—and dials it down where it's not, mixing insulation with ventilation to keep us drier and more comfortable. When the temperature plummets and wind starts whipping, we can also pull up the balaclava-style hood to protect our face and stay out longer on the trail or mountain.

Excellent baselayer that's warm and versatile
(This review was collected as part of a promotion.) This is quickly becoming my go-to layering piece. It works really well as a baselayer of course, but if you size up, you can also use it as a softshell jacket-sweater overtop lighter clothes. The 'hood' section is really minimal, and I find that it functions equally well as a neck warmer, replacing my regular neck tube. That's a big plus. I ordered the light ecru colour, which thankfully is not actually white -it's more of a heathered cream/grey which should be helpful for resisting some light staining. Overall though, I would have preferred a darker color, as I have doubts about how long I'll be able to keep this clean. Great piece all around, easily one of my favs already.

Excellent for cold weather running
I really like this top! Fit is perfect and the feel is wonderful. You cant top Icebreaker wool. The extra wormth in the chest is great and doesnt really add any bulk. If i had one thing to change it would be to either make the face part of the hood a little looser or take it off all together. It does what it is designed to do but if you arent using it it can feel a little tight around the neck. Nice shirt!

Functional and stylish mid layer
I bought this hoodie on sale in the Kitsilano store during an extended stay in Vancouver. It fits to size and is the most comfortable IB garment that I own. I wear mine over a light merino t-shirt and under a gore tex shell, layering up for cold conditions. Hiking on crampons in -5 to -10 C temperatures with blizzard conditions and wind atop Mount Seymour I was quite toasty climbing with this combination of garments, and put on the merino fleece jacket tucked in my backpack for the descent. I especially like the integrated hood and roll neck top, which fits me very well and eliminates the need for a toque. On forest hikes at lower elevations, the hoodie stayed down. It easily nested into the hood of my shell. This IB garment remains warm and comfortable even when it is permeated with sweat. Quite remarkable performance and important if you're in the mountains. At the end of the day I washed my hoodie on delicate cycle and it dried completely overnight. Highly functional for outdoor activities in cold conditions. The zone knit panel on the front keeps me toasty in headwinds yet the rest of the garment is light enough that I don't overheat). This is an awesome bit of kit. Mine is the clove colour, which is easy to match and can be dressed up when needed. It's fashionable enough to wear for an informal night out. Highly recommended.

Love it but not a base layer
(This review was collected as part of a promotion.) No real issues with it. The hood, however, does not extend far enough. I think this has been reported in other reviews. I don’t see it as a base layer; I would not want to sweat into it. I think it’s a fine garment, more of a super warm sweater.

Warm and great fit. Awesome base layer
I have a lot of base layers and merino.. I wanted this one mostly for resort skiing. It would be a great base layer for really cold ski touring days but I find that ski resort is better for this one. My core is warmer than using a 150-200mg + a bigger second layer. It's not itchy. I bought this as I thought I would use the balaclava as well with it ..but unfortunately the fit of it is too lose.. so that's why it's 4/5 for me as now I have this feature but I'm suing a separate balaclava which fits better. This integrated one is too loose.

All-around Excellence
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Mostly purchased as an outer layer for winter trail-running when the temperatures are between 0 and 25 degrees Fahrenheit, and am very pleased with the comfort, warmth, breathability and quality. Glad I sized up to accommodate a base layer for that purpose.
