With reliable waterproofing, this trail shoe is a trusted friend to backpackers, trail runners, and anyone else who needs to move quickly over rugged terrain with dry protection. In rainy weather, the GORE-TEX bootie keeps our feet dry and happy through the storm, while the Vibram MegaGrip outsole delivers grip and traction on even the wettest trails. The molded mid-height collar supports our ankles but still provides enough flex and comfort to help US move the way WE need to when we're trying to cover ground fast.

I would say these shoes run one full size too small. I would look at the European size char it looks more accurate.

These shoes survived the ultimate test. I put them through a month long journey in 120 degree weather on sharp rock and unforgivable terrain with an added 80lbs, and they survived. I have never had a pair of shoes this light that have survived that trek. The cushion is the best part. If you have back, hip, knee, or plantar fasciitis issues I highly recommend these shoes. If Hoka is listening please make an option of the shoe without GORTEX. They did not get unbearably hot, but it makes them take forever to dry and the added breath ability would be great. I would also like a wider toe box adopted. If you are looking for a shoe to last forever, do not buy these. By the end they were trashed and I could touch my foot through the heal with my finger. However, the comfort out weighted the durability which is why I stand by the 5 stars. Hopefully technology catches up soon to make these shoes last longer.

I'm fiercely loyal to the standard Speedgoat, and ultimately caved to curiosity in trying the mids here. I feel Hoka really did what they set out to do, this is a capable blend of a trail runner and a hiking boot. To pull that off, they did more than just "make the Speedgoat tall", it's got a firmer midsole and a stiffer upper. You do have to sit with them to lace them up (hiking boot), but once they're on they're agile and comfortable (trail runner). You'll be able to worry a little less about your ankles (hiking boot) while still getting way more tactile feedback from the ground than you'd expect (trail runner). It's a multitool, and you're compromising a little in either direction for the convenience factor. In the end, it's the Speedgoat you know and love, only more so. I'm already a huge fan of Hoka, but I still didn't expect to like these as much as I did, to be honest. That all being said, I returned them for two reasons which is really the same reason. The Gore-Tex sock. Hokas already fit me fairly snugly, and the addition of the sock/liner made for way too tight a fit for me. I could also feel the sock moving through my actual socks and it drove me crazy. I'm still thinking these are probably True to Size, but just a heads up if your Hokas similarly already feel kinda narrow. TL;DR: these are neat, you'll probably like them.

Very cushioned but not dead -- I can still feel the trail, road, snow, rocks, etc. underfoot. Incredibly stable and grippy. Got them a month ago and have put close to 50 miles on them so far. No blisters, very waterproof (as slushy runs in the East so far have proven.) I plan on hiking in them this Spring in the Adirondacks, too! I felt I had to provide a counterpoint to the 2-star review panning them as too cushioned. It's a Hoka, not a Vibram FiveFingers. :^)

Like Running With Pillows On Your Feet
Just seemed way over cushioned for a trail shoe. Couldn't feel the trail, which on very rocky descents seems to me to be dangerous. Didn't like the feel; just not for me. Returned this shoe.
