Light weight and colorful
I was surprised how light weight these shoes are compared to my previous running shoes. No break in period and my knees and joints did not bother me. I jog/walk on pavement.

COMFY!!
Bought these for an upcoming trip to the Grand Canyon with quite a lot of hiking and walking involved. Bought them ahead of time thinking there would be a break-in period, my assumption was wrong! Extremely comfortable from the get go. I'm loving them and I've gotten several compliments when wearing them!

Excellent shoes!
These are exactly the color as advertised and they have a certain arch support and support in the ball of your foot that is unbeatable! As far as waterproof, I've stepped into some puddles while delivering and my feet did get wet but they don't get soaked or they don't stay wet. I believe the material helps absorb it quicker. I'm still happy with these because you can walk for miles and your feet stay comfy annd never hurt. I recommend these to anyone.

Lightweight and great traction for trail hiking
My go to hiking/trail walking shoes are Challengers and Stinsons. I wanted something that was a little more responsive for steeper and rougher terrain. The Speedgoat5 is great. It's narrower in the toe box than either of the other styles but not uncomfortably so. It was great for my new favorite local hike that has some rock scrambling and steep inclines. It also just feels light and maneuverable. This is in stark contrast to the new iteration of the Stinson, which I had to send back because it's been totally redesigned as a stability shoe which I wore once on the trail and felt like I was going to fall because my feet were so immobilized. The Speedgoats are wonderfully responsive and still cushiony. Have recommended to friends already.

Game changer
New Hoka fan here. While not a big runner previously and never having run on a trail - a local Hoka rep was at a meetup of my areas trailing running group and let me try a pair of Speedgoats. For one, I couldn't believe I was able to keep up with other women who ran 10+ miles for fun but there was no way I could handles the trails, roots and uneven terrain all in my other sneakers I showed up in. These shoes felt right away like they were made for my feet and worked well even with my arch support inserts I use. That afternoon when I was home, not only was I hooked on trail running but I went ahead and bought the Speedgoats I wore that morning. After having them for a couple of weeks now I'm even wearing these just for my regular walks too addition to my trail runs. Highly recommend.

Not at all like earlier speedgoat versions
I had a love/hate relationship with the earlier speedgoats. They felt way too stiff and bulky out of the box, and took awhile to break in. Once broken in, they were great though. They gave me that extra Hoka cushioning. I've never been a fun of ultra cushioned shoes, but as I age and acquire new injuries, I appreciate it, especially on days I feel beat up. The new speedgoat is an awesome shoe, but honestly is so different than the earlier ones, that it should be a different model altogether. It is noticeably lighter and runnable out of the box. Zero break in period was needed. However, it seems the Hoka team accomplished this by taking away its ruggedness. That's a tradeoff I wasn't hoping for. This new version feels more like a road shoe with upgraded traction, something needed in a good shoe lineup, just not what I thought I was buying. Especially considering on one of my first runs with them, a locust thorn came right up through the footbed and into my foot! In my 20 years of ultras, triathlon, and many podium finishes, I have never had that happen. Without the thorn incident, I would have given 4 stars. Seriously Hoka, please put a little more trail ruggedness back into this shoe. You were headed in a good direction with this, but went a bit too far. The heel tab is also not suited to trail running. The previous version was far superior. On a positive note, I like the elimination of the plastic overlays on the upper. They had a tendency to crack well before the useful life of the shoe was up.
