Praise the Swedes! A long jacket!
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
- Size Bought:
- XL

I?ve been struggling to find a shell that fits me since my old Arc?teryx Theta AR started wearing out. This jacket is extra long and has plenty of room for layering underneath. I?m solidly an XL, and most stuff is too short for me, while XXL is too baggy. This jacket is breathable, has great pockets, and doesn?t restrict my movements while ski touring. Only caveat is that it?s a little tricky for me to fit my fat climbing skins inside the inner mesh pockets, but this should only matter when I?m touring on extra cold days.

Haglofs Quality

You probably know what to expect as far as durability and waterproofing between the Gore-Tex pro-shell and the Haglofs name - suffice to say this thing is storm proof and will take a beating. So I'll focus more on the features specific to this jacket, and the fit. Feature-wise, I'm a fan of the big chunky zippers, both aesthetically and functionally. Speaking of aesthetics, the styling is spot-on - understated and clean lines. Pocket space is more than ample. Plenty of room for a phone and keys at the resort, or snacks, clinometers, compasses, radios and other assorted gadgets in the backcountry. I also particularly like the neck gaiter that snaps in place and allows you to unzip a bit but retain some protection from the elements. The fit is slim (but not tight) and the jacket length is on the long side compared to most North American brands. I wear a Medium in most North American brands and a Medium or Large in European brands, and the Medium works for me. I like my outerwear, especially touring focused pieces, to fit on the slim side, so I'd consider this true to size, but if you like some extra room, or, ahem, have picked up a few extra pounds in the mid-section working from home over the past couple of years... you might want to size up. Overall another great Haglofs piece. It's a burly enough jacket for daily driver resort use, but the weight and packability are reasonable for a touring piece. This would be a great choice for a pro-shell jacket for touring and storm skiing if you live in a place that gets a lot of wet coastal storms like New England or the PNW.

Quite the Shell

Really could not ask for more on this shell. I used this all last season hiking and resort skiing without any issues. This is the only 3L shell that I have ever used that did not bleed through after 5+ hours during a wet snow storm. It fits a little long which I like but some may not. It also fits narrow down the sides but it was still comfortable enough to wear hiking in a storm all day. I would give this 6 out of 5 stars for product quality when it comes to keeping the moisture out. Consider me very impressed.
