Fully taped seams and a 30D nylon face fabric ensures hard-wearing performance in rugged mountain environments, while the highly water-resistant center front zipper offers a water-tight closure to the shell. A laminated zippered chest pocket gives you a spot to stash a can of kipper snacks (if you must), but doesn't add too much weight to the equation, so the jacket remains light enough to bring along on thru-hikes and weeklong backpacking trips. A dropped hem protects your lower back from your backpack, and the elasticized hem and cuffs help trap warm air, without adding extra weight in the form of drawcords and hook-and-loop tabs.
