Get gooey.
The 100 calories of complex carbohydrates found in all 24 pouches of the Energy Gel 24 Pack are only part of the reason why Gu is such a ubiquitous sight in the peloton and on recreational rides. Gu's Energy Gel also packs amino acids, antioxidants, and muscle buffers to help begin the recovery process even while you're refueling mid-event. A splash of caffeine helps kick your engine into fat-burning mode, and the packets are easy to tear and eat — no chewing, no two-handed fumbling, and no risk of choking on solid food during hard efforts at an unrelenting pace.

GU packs I love yhem!
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
I've used GU for years and always loved it. After a time gap I bought some, Espresso Love, which seems to be an updated version of what I used to use. It's great! It's like I can feel it flowing in my veins! If you like the dark chocolate and a little caffeine combo, this is it!

Great Replacement
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
I needed a Cliff Shot replacement so I tried these (with caffeine). Pleasant taste, easy to get down, and seemed to add the boost I needed. Would have been 5 stars, but I am not a fan of the packaging. When you rip open the top, there is no where to put the small tab. I thought the Cliff Shots with the attached tab were easier to avoid littering.

Anti-Bonk Perfection
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
Yes you can make your own bike food. But why? I slurp one GU every 30 minutes and I never bonk. That's 3 GUs for a 2 hr ride at intensity. They stuff easily into the jersey pocket, as do the empties. I wish they sold mixed packages of 24 because it's easy to tire of one flavor, no matter how tasty, and all flavors provide the same instant energy. It's really amazing how fast they work. So go ahead , make your own food and save money. I don't want to wait 20 minutes for my calories to kick in, and then lose speed unraveling my homemade wrappers and then dealing with the garbage. I'd rather pay the money, slurp my GU, get and get virtually instant energy on the fly.
