disappointing designs
1. The compression straps are on the outside of the zipper that attaches the daypack to the main pack. This means that you cannot use the compression straps to compress the pack in order to more easily zip on the daypack when both are fully packed out. It was SO HARD to zipper it back on while full, there's just nowhere to grip to pull the seams together. I would like to see a future model that has both sets of compression straps (inside the zipper-on daypack to compress the main pack, and outside the zipper to compress/secure the daypack to the main pack.) 2. the active shield compartment is too big in my opinion, and there is wasted space surrounding it that is too small to fit anything in except make some socks and underwear. I fit 1 pair of size 9 trail runners, 1 pair of size 9 backpacking boots, and 1 pair of size 9 sandals in it. However, there was still wasted space in between those items, but not enough for more shoes. I really don't think this compartment needs to be as big in future models. 3. the pack shoulder straps are too short. I'm 5'4 with a 13.5" torso, and the cushioning of the strap ended right at the top of the crease of my armpits. I feel the short length added to the insecure feeling of the pack on my back and shoulders. 4. I had this fully packed out and the pack was pulling me backwards. The tension felt as though someone was holding back. It doesn't transfer the weight correctly. For reference, I backpack/trek frequently and always use Gregory bags, and I've never experienced this with other models. I also own another very similar travel backpack of another brand, and this doesn't happen with that pack. 5. the zipper around the main pack does a weird curve which is annoying when opening and and closing the bag. pros: the daypack zippers on securely, active compartment. not tested: didn't test the rain cover because I never use one for travel and I don't check this size bag when flying. final thoughts: I always prefer this brand's fit over their main competitor, which has a similar model, but neither brand got this round of their travel pack right with their designs, so I'm sticking to my 2013 fairpoint until what is hopefully a better next model by Gregory.

Great travel pack
Gregory hit the mark with this travel bag. It's spacious, comfortable, sleek and full of functional features. I feel confident using it for both weekend trips and week long excursions and love the versatility it provides me for including a small day pack that can be removed. I would absolutely recommend this bag to a frequent traveller.

Nice Pack but Need Improvement
The bag is designed well for travel. However, it can be improved. 55 L has 18 L daypack so the actual pack is only 37 L. I traveled for 18 days and most of the items I need can be squeezed into the main pack. However, my hiking shoe doesn't fit so I need to put that into the daypack. The major issue of this pack is RAIN COVER!!! The rain cover did not fit the full pack when it's fully loaded. Since rain cover did not fit, I wasn't able to secure all the straps for pack check-in purpose. The rain cover would have been useless if there was rain in fully loaded pack situation. Also, the back of the rain cover needs to be rolled and tucked back inside. It did not do well when the pack is full. It will be nice to include some sort of velcro to secure the backing of the cover. Please please fix and redesign that rain cover to accommodate for easy packing at the airport when bag is fully packed as well as easy on/off when it rains. Minor issue: Another nice thing will be to have compression straps inside the pack since this will give a relief on a zipper and the seams of the pack when you are trying to squeeze everything in. The mesh top on top is also a bit weird because it limited the easy access as well as being able to put things in last minute. Not exactly how you can redesign this to solve the problem. Also recommends to include slight more room for the water bottle pocket outside of day pack to fit in slightly bigger bottle or include side water bottle pocket outside of the main pack. This pack has good potential. I'm not too sure how many people actually utilize the active shield but I didn't. It took up weird space in the middle of the pack. I just traveled for 18 days and I was able to carry pretty much everything except hiking shoe inside the main pack to accommodate for 4 seasons weather. At this point right now, I can make a recommendation to other people to buy this pack due to the design of rain cover.

Is the Tribute 55 55L in total with the day pack or is it less with the day pack removed? Wondering for carry-on purposes
