Durable and fun!
Got a few of these for family outings. My wife and daughter love theirs. They are easy to fit, easy to open, and easy to secure. This model is for younger/smaller (but not by much), and has a good place to easily get needed kid items like snacks, and bug spray.

Perfect for my 8yo
I took my daughter on her first ever backpacking trip using this pack. We filled up the pack with her sleeping bag and clothes, which put it at about 10 lbs. She got so many kudos on the trail from everyone, and she managed to carry this pack for about 3.5 miles up into the Colorado Rockies, and all the way back without it becoming a whine-fest. Honestly, it's just a really pretty pack, too.

Excellent Backpack!!!!
I am a long time fan of Gregory packs for AT backpacking. They have a lot of room, and I am able to organize my stuff to find it easily after a full day of hiking. I am a bigger girl, and most packs just don't fit well. Gregory has a pack for everyone, and I recommend the Icarus 40 if you are well fed like I am :-)

Great kid's pack
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My eight year old daughter used this backpack for her first back country trip. She loved it even though it was slightly too big for her frame. She will definitely grow into it though. Everything she needed fit, all 10 pounds, and she said it was comfortable to wear.

Great for a 9 year old
The Icarus 40 youth pack was great for my 9 year old. It was his first trek. He was able to carry his pack, his sleep pad, some of the food and some tent poles. He had a Nalgene bottle in the side pocket hat kept sliding out when he leaned over and that was frustrating for him. But his shoulders were not sore at the end of the trip and he said at the end that he liked backpacking after all (the first few climbs were not so easy). Gregory is a great brand to fet into if you are starting or restarting backpacking. They are cost effective, long lasting, and have been around a long time. Not to mention, when you call the 800 number there is an option to be put through to so
