Oregon 650 GPS
Get away from it all.
Ditch the hustle and bustle of cities for expansive forests and towering peaks with the Garmin Oregon 650 GPS. Extremely rugged yet aesthetically pleasing, the Oregon 650 GPS features high-quality rubberized plastic and glass for an upscale look and feel. This high-sensitivity GPS locks onto satellites faster by using Russian-based GLONASS alongside traditional GPS satellites. Suddenly, locking onto a GPS signal is incredibly quick, as GLONASS adds 24 additional satellites for speedy signal transmission. Plus, HotFix satellite prediction gives regular users faster satellite acquisition by predicting the positioning of GPS satellites up to three days from its last use.
Harness the sun's powerful rays with the reflective display technology utilized by this GPS unit. Through combining external light with the unit's LED backlight, one can easily view the screen without having to raise the backlight to maximum brightness in sunny conditions. This saves precious battery life when you're embarking on multi-day excursions. Dual-orientation views maps in landscape and portrait mode, aiding in road navigation and typing (landscape works best for these).
Bluetooth-compatible with Oregon 600-series devices and iPhones equipped with Garmin's BaseCamp application, this GPS wirelessly shares photos, geocaches, adventures, routes, and custom maps. Additionally, this GPS is ANT + wireless compatible, allowing you to sync with Garmin's heart rate, cadence, chirp, and tempe sensors (sold separately). A new and improved Advanced Waypoint Managment interface conveniently displays all of your waypoints on one screen for editing multiple waypoints. The Advanced Elevation Plot lets you view changes in elevation on a line-graph plot and even shows projected elevation for upcoming waypoints. The included eight megapixel camera has autofocus for high-resolution photos and trip documentation. Display favorite backcountry destinations and share geotagged photos with friends through Garmin BaseCamp (free download online).
A worldwide shaded relief basemap is included with the Oregon 650 GPS, and you can download a wide variety of maps through Garmin's website for additional cost. The 16-hour battery life (included NiMH battery) allows for longer trips, supplemented by two AA batteries for extra juice. A USB/charging cable, AC adapter, carabiner clip, and NiMH battery pack are all bundled with this GPS for out-of-the-box functionality. Compatible BaseCamp software and iPhone application are available online or through Apple's App Store free of charge. This software is great for trip planning, terrain surveying, geo-tagged photo sharing, adventure publishing, and satellite imagery transfer.
