Why We Like The Index S2 Smart Scale

Whether you're training for a tri, making a commitment to getting healthy, or just working on getting ready for summer, Garmin's Index Smart Scale makes sticking to your plan a whole lot easier. It does all the classic scale things: weighing in pounds, kilograms, and even stone. It also tracks body mass index, body fat percentage, bone mass, and skeletal muscle mass, all of which are important data points for high-level athletes. The Index can recognize and remember up to 16 different users, and of course it can sync to Garmin Connect, the online platform that lets you track and analyze all your workout data, so you can see exactly how your workouts correspond to your goals.

doesnt recognize correct person

I have been pretty frustrated with the scale- i thought it knew who i was based on watch i was wearing. anyway my wife got pregnant and when her weight got close to mine it essentially thinks i am her or vice versa (even though she has subsequently lost weight and i have gone in and deleted her more recent higher values). I have tried to reset multiple times. I am very disappointed in the scale especially for the cost.

Great Scale, BUT...

Great scale which is easy to set up and use, except for very poor bio metric readings. This is a replacement scale for me so I have reference to readings from my predecessor scale. Although weight is correct, the other readings are less so, particularly body fat percentage. This is not a vanity issue. Body fat percentage is about 10 points higher than the previous scale which I had independently determined to have been fairly accurate. Because of this, other health measurement results in Garmin Connect are skewed incorrectly. This is very disappointing and adversely affects the reason for having such a sale..

Poor Quality

After initial setup which appeared to go smoothly it kept restarting. I did a factory reset, it kept restarting. I did a firmware update and it kept restarting. It kept going from blue triangle screen to a weight screen and then to a black screen and then start over with the blue triangle. I did manage to capture my weight while on the weight screen but even that seemed awkward with the first digit on the display being messed up.

Not impressed

I was so excited to get this and pair it with my watch and the app. It paired fine for me, and I was able to read all my data. However, I wanted my husband to also use the scale, but after an hour of trying, we could not get it to pair with his phone's app. I even unpaired and repaired the device from my phone.....nothing helped...we tried everything including the troubleshooting in the manual online. The instructions say to tap the scale to "turn on"....this took usually 8 or 9 taps. I tried installing the risers (even though they are for use on carpet, and it worked better BUT was dangerously slippery on my tile). So, after all the frustration, I boxed it up and sent it back.

Great Tracking!!

This scale makes tracking weight so much easier. It sends the data right to Garmin connect. It also gives insight to other metrics.

Accurate and functional

Setup was easy and it is consistently accurate. Syncs up great with the app and easy to set up other users. I use it mainly for the weight readings as I’m sure how accurate the other functions work. The scale itself is well built and seems solid.

Not bad

Bought this to go with my Fenix 7 Pro. Not a bad scale. Just wish it would tell you the Visceral Fat/Subcutaneous Fan percentage like another scale I have does.

Syncs easily underestimates fat

This scale is great if you love stats but hate logging them. I use the connect app a lot, and it's nice to be able to step on the scale and go about my day without logging into an app and recording each number. I recently had a Dexa scan done and this scale is about 3-4% under the fat amount. It's consistent, but I'm pretty sure it's been off by the same amount since I got it. I have a much older scale from a different company and it shows exactly the same number as the Dexa scan and the Garmin scale has been 3-4% under that one every time I compare fat %. If you want to track change over time, it seems good for that. And compared to my watch telling me I'm less fit than I hoped, having my scale be more forgiving may not be the worst thing.
