I have thickerish thighs and these weren't as loose as I expected them be. They're still very comfy and the material is really nice. However. If you want more freedom when your running or doing crazy workouts and like more air space between your leg and the fabric, I'd go up a size. Granted the large would be too big in the waist, maybe (but you can tighten the strings) I'd rather have more thigh room.

I've tried at least 10 different pairs of shorts. These are the winners. Pockets, no lining, nice thin fabric. Perfect for all day outside. Not too short, or too tight around the waist, but still fitted. I'm super picky and these check all the boxes!

This is the best short I have had, I use it as a board short because it is sooo comfortable, it dries quickly, fits perfect on the waist, I think because not all of it has elastic.
