Gearhead Picks: MSR Hubba Hubba NX Tent
Why Matt Weinberg Loves This 3-Season Tent
If you’re in the market for a tent for backpacking or car camping adventures, you’ve probably heard about the Hubba Hubba NX Tent from MSR. Backcountry Gearhead and camping expert Matt Weinberg dives in to give you all the information about what features make this lightweight tent his favorite for backpacking trips and car camping alike.
With camping season right around the corner, I’m here to talk about my favorite tent, the Hubba Hubba NX from MSR. With a trail weight of just over three pounds, its small size makes it easy to stow away in your backpack and the durable nylon ripstop is perfect for car camping.
MSR was incredibly thoughtful in the design process. It’s spacious with room for two people and gear. At five foot eleven, I’m able to sit up completely and I’ve got plenty of room for my head and shoulders. This makes everything from hanging out to changing in the tent much more enjoyable. There’s loops for hanging lights and mesh pockets to store clothing and various small essentials. The two door system makes it easy to get in and out of and the vestibules offer plenty of real estate for your pack and dirty shoes.
Worried about your pack getting soaked when it’s raining? Don’t worry! The rain fly has kickstand vents that reduce the buildup of condensation. On top of that, MSR has fortified the floor of the tent much like a bathtub to prevent any water from getting in. When it’s not raining you can remove the rain fly which allows for increased breathability. It keeps you cool and extremely comfortable. Additionally, it provides great visibility to check out the night sky while you lie in bed. It is the combination of these factors that makes this tent perfect for any condition.
